There are many more reasons to check out i Light Marina Bay, Asia’s leading sustainable light art festival. Into it’s fourth edition this year, the festival features 25 innovative and sustainable light art installations created by creative talents from around the world, lighting up Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay.

This year’s festival theme set by the festival’s multinational curatorial team “In Praise of Shadows”, inspired by one of the major writers of modern Japanese literature, Junichiro Tanizaki ‘s seminal essay of the same title.

Challenging the obsession that brighter is better and seeking to reframe perceptions of light and sustainability, the team hopes to inspire artists and festival-goers to re-imagine and reconsider sustainability issues in a new light and come together to create and sustain a harmonious relationship with our environment.

From 4 to 27 March, 25 sustainable light art installations transform Marina Bay into a kaleidoscopic display of light, colour and shadow. I was there last weekend to witness it for myself with my family and a selected group of loyal Alvinology.com readers and followers.

Check out all the posts they made via  the hashtags #AlvinxiLight and #iLightMarinaBay on Instagram and Facebook.

Here are some of my favourite posts from the group:

After dinner at #longchimsg, together with @alvinology team and blogger friends, we went to explore the latest attraction happening around Marina Bay Singapore. This year, i light Marina Bay is from 4 to 27 Mar 2016. Nightly from 7.30pm to 11.30pm (extended to 12.00mn on Fri & Sat) Marina Bay Waterfront. Need more info, visit www.ilightmarinabay.sg. Well, we had a lot of fun moving from installations to another. This particular one is Angels of Freedom presented by Germany & Israel. . . #ilightmarinabay #alvinxilight #kings_luxury #instasg #instahub #forsingapore #yoursingapore #visitsingapore #exploresingapore #instagramsg #instagram #tokyocameraclub #lights #ig_mood #ig_asia #ig_photooftheday #photography #photooftheday #marinabaysingapore #ig_masterpiece #igmood #gf_singapore #global_family

Best of all, most of the activities at i Light Marina Bay are open to public and free! There are lots of things to do for the whole family and individuals of all ages.

If you are concerned that there is a waste of electricity to light up all the installations, to promote an environmentally-responsible behaviour for a sustainable future, the participating artists have incorporated the use of recyclable materials and adopted energy-efficient lighting technologies in the creation of their stunning light art installations. Here is an example of one such work:

Every aspect of the festival will adopt a more effective and efficient management of resources to meet this commitment to the environment.

During my weekend excursion at the festival, we started off from PasarBella, checking out the traveling market for seafood, meat, dairy, fresh produce, wines and more. Some of us had beer and food:
