[Movie Review] Kung Fu Panda 3

Kung Fu Panda Po is back again in 2016!

One of the most successful animated franchises in the world, Kung Fu Panda 3 returns, packed with lots of fun and laughter for the whole family to enjoy.

The movie features the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, J. K. Simmons, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Bryan Cranston, Kate Hudson, and James Hong. Produced by DreamWorks Animation and Oriental DreamWorks, the movie received a limited release in China on January 23 for a special three-hour sneak preview and was released in Singapore on March 1.

The movie, like its predecessors, received generally positive reviews from critics and the public. It had a bigger opening weekend in China than in the U.S. and Canada. As of February 29, 2016, it has grossed over US$314 million worldwide. It is now the biggest grossing animated feature ever in the Chinese market.

Yes, everybody loves pandas  and in Kungfu Panda 3, there are lots of them!

To be honest, I have not seen the first two Kung Fu Panda movies, but my son, Asher did and he is super huge fan of Kung Fu Panda. Hence we entered the theatres with my four-year-old boy knowing more about the backstories for Kung Fu Panda than me.

In this latest movie, Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappeared. The reunited duo then traveled to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of new panda characters. Meanwhile, the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China, defeating all the kung fu masters. Po needs to be the impossible – learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas.

From start till end, the movie was packed full of actions and comedic moments to keep you entertained throughout. The plot is a little clumsy with lots of loopholes, but I guess it is acceptable as it is a action comedy targeted at the family audience.

My son enjoyed the movie very much. In fact, he even picked up this line of wisdom from Po’s Master Shifu: “I’m not trying to turn you into me. I’m trying to turn you into you.”

Deep isn’t it?

I like this quote from Po’s Master Shifu: “If you only do what you can do, you’ll never be more than you are now.”

Kung Fu Panda 3 is now showing in Singapore and is available in 3D. Go catch it with your family!
