The Mount Faber site has undergone some major rebranding and refurbishing to cater more to a family crowd in a casual setting. The erstwhile Sapphire and Back Opal dining have been given a makeover to welcome Spuds & Aprons – fun, casual fusion dining atop the hill at Mount Faber.
I visited Spuds & Aprons on two separate occasions with Rachel and Asher. The first time for a quick lunch before we took the cable car to Sentosa and the second time to sample their Mother’s Day menu.
The restaurant has a magnificent location with a view to match. Beyond just being a dining place, it is more of a lifestyle destination for families to escape the hustle and bustle of crowded city living in Singapore:
On the regular menu, there is a mix of local delights, fusion and western dishes, enough to satisfy diverse international tastebuds:
Overall, the food were simple and reasonably priced. You cannot really go wrong with a casual dining menu like this. The ambient is a big plus and I like that they have rebranded to become more child-friendly, including a children’s menu.
I think the last time I visited Mount Faber was probably when I was a child. Now, I am a father with my own child. This revisit has been a good experience and it quashed my preconceived notion that it is just a place for tourists.
For this coming Mother’s Day, the chef concocted a special Mother’s Day set lunch menu:
Grilled Prawn with Lemongrass Pomelo Salad, Chilli Peanut Dressing
Superior Seafood Pumpkin Soup
Braised Beef Cheeks with Dashi Stock and Shoyu Daikon, Snow Peas, Baby Carrot, Garlic Fried Rice
Or
Confit of Salmon, Boiled Potato, Haricot Beans, Cherry Tomato, Black Olives, Preserved Lemon, Coriander Pesto
Rose Cheese Cake, Raspberry Compote
Freshly Brewed Coffee or Tea

Rachel and I like the zesty salad and the slow cooked salmon which was moist and delectable in texture. The Mother’s Day menu is definitely a notch-up from Spuds & Aprons’ regular menu, moving from casual to fine dining.
