Last Friday (14 Mar), in celebration of the 2oth anniverary of Reebok’s Pump Fury series, the brand partnered with Singapore’s \local brands, Limited Edt and Hypethetic to redefine the icon.
The Limited Edt X Hypethetic X Reebok Instapump Fury 20th Anniversary sneakers is the tenth of 27 unique designs that Reebok will be releasing from partnerships with acclaimed designers from all over the world this year:
For this collaboration, Limited Edt appointed Joe Cher, a.k.a Twistedjoe, founder of the clothing label sneaker customising collective Hypethetic, to give his artistic take on the Pump Fury classic:
Twistedjoe’s Instapump Fury rendition boasts Hypethetic’s signature colours and features style elements that are likened to the design of Limited Edt’s “Valult” and “Chamber” boutique stores.
The ocean’s lethal Devil Ray served as Twistedjoe’s inspiration for the pump’s mottled black and grey upper. The sneakers comes with silver Reebok, Limited Edt and Hypethetic logos, two metallic stars representing the Fury’s 20-year legacy, a metallic chrome accent on the heel and a blue inner lining.
Each pair comes with an individually numbered holographic box designed by art house WHALERABBIT – limited to 175 individaually numbered pieces worldwide. The exclusive shoe box is specially fabricated from polished translucent black acrylic, accented with a hexagonal holographic glow, a magnetic lock, and nickel-plated logos. A special-edition collaborative not-for-sale t-shirt will also be given out with each purchase.
If you are interested to buy this pair of Instapump Fury, visit Limited Edt’s official website or facebook page for more information.
I am a big fan of Reebok’s Pump Fury series and used to own three pairs, including the original neon yellow and red pair. The shoes are ultra light-weight and the pump at the front adds a touch of fun. Best of all, they come in really shocking colours which were much needed to contrast the dull shades of my AJC uniform.
Seeing the Pump Fury brand still strong and iconic in today’s pop culture is a walk down memory lane for me. At the launch event last Friday at F Club, several classic Instapump Fury sneakers were on display:
Reebok X Frank The Butcher (2014)
Fashion connoisseur Frank The Butcher and his brand Business as Usual (BAU) decked the upper out with a custom black woven splatter design covering the lace-area, collar and tongue. Available in pink and beige colourways, the shoe comes branded with “BAU” on the heels and their signature “All Is Fair” slogan on the toe.
Reebok X Packer Shoes (2014)
Packe Shoes (New Jersey) worked with legendary graffiti artist Stash for this pump design. Along with the artist’s signature palette of tonal blues, the sneaker features a suede and synthetic upper in contrasting shades of blue. A navy blue base at the midsole is accented by light blue speckles and a royal blue Hexalite insert.
Reebok X Chanel (1997)
These pumps were never available for sale as the shoe only hit sample and promo runs. However, the stark design of the shoes, with its silver and white colourway, textured grey base and iconic double-C logo on the heels were still highly sought after and many are looking for the revival of this pump.
Reebok Fury OG “Hong Kong Handover” (1997)
Sporting a red, black, gold and white colourway representing the Chinese and Hong Kong flag colours, these shoes are a tribute to Hong Kong’s transfer of sovereignty from a British colony to be part of China once again. It has a red mesh upper with black and gold overlaying panels with a contrasting white midsole.
