Plugging this event for a few friends to who started a Japanese Ranchu gold fish farm, Osukaa Gold Fish Farm, at 19 Seletar West Farmway 1, Singapore 798124.
Via wikipedia: The ranchu is a hooded variety of fancy goldfish developed in Japan. It is referred to as the “king of goldfish” by the Japanese.
The ranchu is not known as the “king of goldfish” for nothing. They come with hefty price tags. A mid-sized, Japan-imported, average grade ranchu can easily cost upwards of $100.
The event occurred on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks back in September. When I arrived, the judging was completed and the winning ranchu were already chosen. There were some demonstrations going. A few Thai ranchu expert breeders were showing the gathered ranchu enthusiasts some tricks like scrubbing their ranchu to make thescales shine and pushing out eggs from pregnant ranchu.
The day rounded up with the guys from Osukaa Gold Fish Farm putting up a few ranchu for bidding at below cost prices, followed by a simple award presentation ceremony for the winning ranchu owners in the Tosai Ranchu Show.
