A Visit to the Singapore Discovery Centre

Previous weekend, I visited the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) together with a group of bloggers via a bloggers’ SDC preview tour jointly organised by omy and SDC. Starting this November all the way till January next year, the SDC has an interesting line-up of new events, programs and activities which were showcased during the tour. You can find out more about them HERE.

Without further ado, check out the photos below. 🙂 (Note: the photos are all taken by my colleague, Corrinne Quek who went with me for the tour and not me as I was holding onto the video camera)

Let’s start with the mainstay exhibits in the SDC. These are mainly interactive installations, made to foster greater awareness among Singaporeans of our heritage and identity.

Next up, we visited the newly unveiled X-factor Singapore exhibition which was just launched on 14 November. It seeks to highlight Singapore as an X-factor City and showcase how we Live, Work and Play in Singapore in the next 10 to 15 years via interactive and experiential ways.

After that, we rest our feet as we stepped into the SDC’s iWerkzs theatre to catch the 3D movie – Fly me to the Moon. The animation has a storyline which is obviously targetted at young children. It is about three little houseflies who made a trip to the moon and back onboard Apollo 11. This is only the third time I am catching a 3D movie, and though it’s always refreshing to see the animations come to live in 3D, right in front of you, to be honest, it still makes me a little nauseous after a while. Maybe I am too old for this, haha.

After the 3D movie, we took a quick bus tour of the SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI), followed by a foot tour inside the Army Museum.

Finally, to end the long full day tour, we headed back to the SDC to try out the 4D simluator rides which has not been officially launched to the public yet. More information will be made available by SDC in early Decemeber. Do stay tuned. I find the ride quite interesting. I have one advice for the ladies who want to try this ride though – try not to sit in the front row if you are wearing skirts as the fan gets really strong during the ride. :p
