Singapore travellers are expected to continue prioritising holidays in 2027, with a growing focus on meaningful experiences, smarter spending and trips that reflect their personal interests, according to Skyscanner’s newly released Travel Trends 2027 report.

The report identifies seven travel trends expected to influence holiday decisions in the coming year, alongside lists of trending destinations experiencing the biggest increases in search interest and locations offering better value for money.
Despite rising costs and global economic uncertainty, 89% of Singapore travellers surveyed said they planned to travel as much as or more than they did previously in 2027. Rather than giving up holidays, many are adjusting their spending to focus on what matters most to them.
Finding authentic local experiences and seeking convenience and familiarity were equally important to 37% of respondents, while 36% prioritised keeping costs low. For travellers aged 17, accommodation budgets and airfares were the leading considerations when choosing a destination, with both cited by 51% of respondents. Meanwhile, 32% said they planned to allocate more money towards travel insurance to protect themselves against unexpected disruptions.
Skyscanner’s seven travel trends reflect how holidays are increasingly shaped by individual lifestyles, personal interests and the desire to get more out of every trip.
The first trend, Signal Severance, reflects the growing desire to disconnect from digital devices and daily pressures while travelling. Eight in 10 Singapore travellers said they were able to disconnect to some extent during their holidays. Destinations offering opportunities to step away from constant connectivity are gaining interest, with searches for Yining in China increasing by 193% year on year and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania rising by 84%.
The second trend, Pilgra-merch, highlights how shopping for distinctive, location exclusive products is becoming a reason to travel. Skyscanner found that 56% of Singapore travellers had taken a trip specifically to purchase items they could not buy online. Regional apparel, artisanal crafts and locally made products are increasingly influencing travel itineraries.
Music is another growing travel motivator under the Sound Bound trend. Beyond major international concerts, travellers are increasingly interested in regional music and cultural experiences. Some 18% of respondents identified cultural immersion as the most important factor when planning a music related trip. Traditional concert venues and carnival experiences were also popular among Gen Z travellers, at 41% and 37% respectively, and Millennials, at 31% and 34%.
The Currency Chasers trend reflects the growing importance of foreign exchange rates in destination planning. Nearly half of travellers surveyed, or 44%, said they had switched destinations to take advantage of more favourable exchange rates. The figure rose to 55% among Gen Z and 49% among Millennials, suggesting that travellers are becoming more strategic about where their money can go further.
Romantic travel is also evolving under the Multi-mooning trend. Instead of taking only one traditional honeymoon, couples are spreading their celebrations across several trips, from short getaways immediately after their weddings to longer dream holidays in the years that follow. Some 31% of travellers said they opted for multiple mini-moons, rising to 45% among Gen Z. Searches for Udaipur in India and Qingdao in China, two destinations highlighted for these romantic escapes, increased by 119% and 105% year on year respectively.
The Grand Odysseys trend points to growing interest in destinations connected to ancient civilisations, mythology and historical architecture. Films such as The Odyssey have inspired 38% of travellers surveyed to plan a trip, while 54% said architectural landmarks, including Pompeii, the Parthenon and the Colosseum, had inspired their travel plans.
Health and fitness are also influencing accommodation choices through the Gym-cation trend. More travellers are looking for hotels that make it easier to maintain their fitness routines and eat well while away from home. Among Gen Z, 78% said they were more likely to book a hotel serving a nutritious breakfast, while 32% preferred hotels with gyms and were willing to choose one property over another based on its fitness facilities. Bangkok, Mumbai, New York, Phuket and Seoul were among the destinations most popular with travellers using Skyscanner’s hotel gym filter.
Beyond these trends, Skyscanner has identified destinations attracting increased search interest as well as locations offering more competitive travel costs. Belitung in Indonesia topped the trending destinations list, recording a 388% year on year increase in searches as travellers looked beyond traditional tourist capitals for quieter coastal escapes and sandy beaches.
For travellers seeking better value, Chicago in the United States led Skyscanner’s list of destinations where airfares had fallen the most year on year, with prices down 47%. The city offers visitors opportunities to explore neighbourhood jazz clubs, cultural attractions and major festivals while benefiting from lower flight prices.
The report also examined how travellers discover their next holiday destination. Social media platforms remain the leading sources of inspiration, with YouTube cited by 58% of respondents, followed by Instagram at 48% and TikTok at 39%. AI chatbots and tools were cited by 19%, indicating that personal recommendations and social content continue to play a stronger role in travel planning.
Among Gen Z travellers, recommendations from friends and family were particularly influential, with 58% trusting suggestions from friends and 57% relying on family recommendations.
Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2027 report suggests that rising travel costs are changing how people plan their holidays rather than discouraging them from travelling altogether. For Singapore travellers, the coming year is expected to bring greater emphasis on authentic local experiences, carefully managed budgets and getaways that reflect their interests, whether that means disconnecting from technology, discovering local culture, following music, celebrating relationships or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. https://alvinology.com/2026/10/14/american-tourister-launches-getaway-campaign-with-argyle-and-tranto-luggage-bundles-from-s199-and-singapore-food-trail/
