Fans of immersive theatre can take one last trip down the rabbit hole with Crack The Case: Wonderland, the latest and final instalment of Sight Lines’ interactive detective series. Running at Goodman Arts Centre from 9 October to 1 November 2026, the 90-minute experience brings audiences into Lewis Carroll’s familiar fantasy world, where the Mad Hatter has lost the very thing that makes Wonderland special.
I attended the media preview last week with my son Asher. As fans of the Crack The Case series, we were looking forward to seeing how the production would evolve off the previous instalments. This time, the experience felt noticeably different, with a more colourful, playful and family friendly approach. It was also the most chaotic edition of the series so far.

The premise is straightforward. The Mad Hatter, played by social media influencer Noah Yap, is hosting an un-birthday tea party, but something has gone wrong. The tea is cold, the riddles have lost their charm and the inhabitants of Wonderland are behaving differently. Someone has stolen the Madness that gives the place its character, and the audience has 90 minutes to work out who is responsible.

As with other Crack the Case shows, rather than watching the story unfold from a fixed seat, the audience is encouraged to explore the space, interact with the characters and look for clues. The experience is deliberately non-linear, meaning that audiences can encounter scenes in different orders and follow whichever leads catch their attention. Different viewers may therefore piece together different parts of the mystery, depending on where they go and whom they question.

The set is one of the production’s main attractions. Goodman Arts Centre’s Blackbox is transformed into a colourful version of Wonderland, with decorative corners, unusual props and makeshift spaces that invite the audience to investigate. The costumes are equally striking, featuring bold colours, exaggerated designs and playful details that suit the characters’ eccentric personalities.

The visual presentation gives the show much of its energy. From the Mad Hatter’s flamboyant appearance to the recognisable figures of the March Hare, Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat and Caterpillar, the production embraces the absurdity of Wonderland rather than attempting to recreate it as a conventional stage play. The props and costumes are deliberately garish, helping the characters stand out as the audience move around the room.

The cast, aside from Noah Yap as the Mad Hatter, comprises of Tan Rui Shan as the March Hare, Masturah Oli as the Queen of Hearts, Zulfiqar Izzudin as the Cheshire Cat and Victoria Lam as the Caterpillar. Each character offers a different personality for audiences to engage with, and the performers have to remain responsive to questions and interactions that may not follow a predictable script.

How fun and entertaining each show turns out is also highly dependent on the audience interaction as they are not simply spectators. The audience have to decide whether to stay with a scene, question a character or move elsewhere in search of evidence.
For the media preview night we attended, as most of the audience are social media influencers and media personnels, engagement level was high and overall, the vibes was really good. For the public, going with a large group friends or family can potentially make the experience more engaging if more of the audience sort of know each other.

The puzzles provide enough opportunities for audiences to investigate possible suspects and motives, although the experience may not be equally satisfying for everyone. Those who enjoy exploring elaborate sets and interacting with performers will find plenty to occupy their attention. Others who prefer a tightly structured detective story may find the narrative less compelling.

For us, the storyline was less compelling than those in previous Crack The Case productions. While the Wonderland setting offers plenty of creative possibilities, the central mystery did not feel as strong as some of the earlier cases. The abundance of colourful distractions and character interactions also means that the investigation can sometimes take a back seat to the spectacle around it.

That said, the shift towards a more family friendly format is understandable. Earlier editions of the series leaned more towards adult audiences, while Wonderland opens the experience to families with children aged six and above, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Dedicated family sessions take place at 10.30am and 2pm, while the 4.45pm and 8pm sessions are intended for adult audiences.
The change makes the production more accessible to younger visitors who may be encountering immersive theatre for the first time. Instead of relying solely on the complexity of the mystery, the show offers a colourful environment in which children can explore, ask questions and interact with fictional characters. Parents who enjoy participating alongside their children may find this a worthwhile alternative to conventional theatre outings.

Families can also sign up for the Wonderland Children’s Workshop, a separate one-hour activity featuring drama games, crafts and tea-party etiquette. The workshop costs S$48 and takes place before selected morning and afternoon performances.
One practical point to note is that the experience involves standing and walking for the full 90 minutes. Standard tickets do not include seating, so visitors who require a place to rest may want to consider the VIP option, which includes a reserved seat at the Mad Hatter’s table. The show takes place indoors and continues rain or shine, while photography is permitted throughout.

Standard tickets cost S$88, while VIP tickets are priced at S$128. The VIP package also includes a private tour before the doors open, priority entry, additional clues, a separate quest and a private photo opportunity with the cast. A group package offers 10 per cent off Standard tickets when four tickets are purchased, while an opening week promotion offers 20 per cent off Standard tickets when booking at least two tickets, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
For long-time followers of the series, there is an added sense of finality to Crack The Case: Wonderland. It marks the end of a run that has invited audiences to step beyond the traditional theatre experience and become active participants in unfolding mysteries. Having followed the series with my son, it was bittersweet to learn that this would be the final Crack The Case production.

Ultimately, Crack The Case: Wonderland is a visually colourful and energetic farewell, with costumes, props and character interactions that make the experience enjoyable for families and fans of immersive theatre. Its biggest strength lies in the freedom to explore Wonderland and engage directly with its inhabitants, rather than in the strength of its central mystery.
Crack The Case: Wonderland runs until 1 November 2026 at Goodman Arts Centre Blackbox, Block M, Level 1, 90 Goodman Road, Singapore 439053. Tickets are available through BookMyShow. SG Culture Pass can be used for this show if you have not used yours yet.
