KidsFest! will return to Singapore in 2027 with five weeks of theatre, featuring five family friendly productions from the UK and Australia. The festival will take place at the Drama Centre Theatre from 22 January to 28 February 2027, with a one week break from 1 to 7 February for the Lunar New Year holiday.
Presented by ABA Productions, KidsFest! 2027 will take young audiences on adventures ranging from The Gruffalo’s Deep Dark Wood and the changing seasons in Stick Man to a magical journey through the sky in Room on the Broom. The programme will also travel back in time with Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians and Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain.
The festival has been bringing English language theatre to Singapore and Hong Kong since its inaugural run in 2012. Over the years, KidsFest! has introduced hundreds of thousands of young people and families to stage adaptations of well-known children’s picture books and literature.
The 2027 lineup combines returning favourites with productions that have not been seen in Singapore for several years. The Gruffalo will return for a two-week run following its previous appearance at KidsFest! 2024 and strong audience demand. The production has toured 18 countries, been translated into seven languages and welcomed more than three million audience members worldwide.
Stick Man will also return after a decade away from Singapore, bringing audiences along with the character through different seasons and adventures. Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians and Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain will similarly make their return after 10 years, offering children an entertaining introduction to historical events and characters.
Room on the Broom, which was last staged in Singapore in 2019, will return with a new version of the Oliver nominated production. Based on the popular picture book, the story follows a witch and her cat as they encounter a series of characters during their journey. The book has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide.
KidsFest! 2027 is designed to give families in Singapore the opportunity to experience well known English language children’s stories adapted for live theatre. The festival’s organisers aim to continue its focus on bringing international productions to young audiences while creating shared experiences for families.
