To mark SG61, beloved halal family restaurant Swensen’s has launched a special National Day menu, available from now to 9 September 2026. Drawing inspiration from Singapore’s rich and diverse culinary tapestry, the establishment reimagined iconic hawker dishes and nostalgic snacks with their own unique take.

We were invited for a tasting for two and started off our meal with the MILO Bandung drink, a popular returning crowd favourite that combines two popular local beverages.

Next came the Chili Crab Soup with Mantou, a mini version of the popular Singapore Chili Crab. The classic dish is condensed into a savoury soup starter with real crab meat and a golden mantou to soak up the gravy. A lovely start to creative local flavours to come.

For the main courses, we started with the brand new Singapore Laksa Pizza (S$18.61).Taking the aromatic curry broth of traditional Singapore laksa, the culinary team transformed the noodle dish into a creative east meets west pizza.

The pizza is layered with a bed of mozzarella cheese and topped with succelent shrimps, fish cake, taupok, egg and fragrant laksa leaves. This fusion creation delivers an additive cheese pull coupled with local flavours that actually do taste like the broth dish itself in a solid form. Interesting.

Following the pizza, we dug into the Jumbo Blue Prawn Hokkien Mee (S$18.61). We love this dish and it stood out for us as the highlight of the savoury dishes.

The kitchen combines wok-fried yellow noodles and bee hoon, infusing them with a rich seafood broth to form the classic base. Served in a generous diner style, it is loaded with a jumbo fresh blue prawn, char grilled chicken breast, squid, fish cake, egg, bean sprouts and chives. The accompanying calamansi and sambal belacan added the perfect tangy and spicy kick to a truly satisfying main.

No trip to Swensen’s is complete without dessert, and the Muah Chee Waffle with Ice Cream (S$10.61) is a definitive must eat. We found it to be super sinful and incredibly delectable.

This dessert combines a beloved nostalgic street snack with a warm, made to order waffle. The waffle is uniquely filled with chewy muah chee goodness, topped with a scoop of ice cream of your choice, dusted with peanut powder, and finished with Swensen’s signature wafer fan.
