Following up on our previous coverage of the grand reopening of TANYU at 313 Somerset, we returned to the bustling flagship outlet to check out their latest promotion.

TANYU, a widely recognised Chinese grilled fish specialist with nearly 300 outlets across 72 major cities in Mainland China, first made its way to Singapore shores in 2017. Their name literally translates to seeking or exploring fish and they currently operates five outlets in Singapore. Recently, they have added barbecue skewers to their menu, expanding beyond their signature fish dishes. Additionally, the newly renovated 313 Somerset location boasts an exclusive interactive Chinese barbecue skewer bar.

Here, diners can browse an illuminated live station displaying over 40 different types of skewers. These premium ingredients are prepared fresh every morning and chilled on a bed of ice, ready to be grilled fresh to order.

Our dinner tasting began with one of their signatures, Grilled Fish with Fresh Green Pepper (from S$48.90).

This dish is celebrated for its unique flavour profile, which utilises Jiangjin Green Sichuan Peppercorn (江津花椒) and fiery Seven Star Chili (七星椒) to create an addictively numbing yet refreshing experience. The intense aroma and rich oils from the peppers permeate the tender fish to leave a lingering note with each mouthful.

To further enjoy the rich broth, we added the TANYU Black Beancurd, available at S$3 for a half portion or S$5 for a full portion.

We absolutely love the black beancurd, which is not only rich in flavour, but in nutrients too. Crafted from organic black soybeans, black sesame, and yellow soybean, it soaks up the savoury and spicy gravy while offering a delightfully textured yet smooth texture.

We also had the Sichuan Spicy Chicken (S$19.80) for an extra kick. The fried bite sized chicken pieces deliver a robust heat and a satisfying crunch that makes it an excellent sharing plate alongside the bubbling fish.

The platter includes the Thick Cut Pork Belly, made from premium pork imported from Hunan. These juicy slices feature an ideal meat to fat ratio and emerge from the flames with a rich smoky flavour.

Alongside it, the generously sized Sichuan Peppercorn Chicken Wings are tossed in aromatic peppercorns with a hint of sweetness, delivering a bold numbing kick.

The platter also features two delightful meat and vegetable pairings.

The Teriyaki Black Pork Belly with Asparagus wraps pork slices around crisp asparagus and coats it all in a savoury sweet glaze.

Similarly, the Teriyaki Black Pork Belly with Enoki Mushrooms offers a lighter bite where tender pork surrounds delicate mushrooms before being finished with the same teriyaki sauce.

To balance the savoury meats, the Pineapple with Caramel provides an indulgent sweet finish. The caramelised crust yields to a soft and juicy center, offering a refreshing palate cleanser.
