How durable are foldable smartphones, especially the flagship models?
HONOR decided to put its upcoming flagship foldable through some of the most extreme stress tests imaginable, and we got to witness it firsthand in Malaysia this morning.

We were at the SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre Event Space in Selangor where HONOR showcased the durability capabilities of the upcoming HONOR Magic V6 ahead of its Singapore launch on 4 June 2026.
The event was not a typical smartphone presentation. Instead of slides and specifications alone, HONOR rolled out a Ferrari sports car, a Diamond DA42 aircraft, and a series of live demonstrations designed to push the foldable device to its limits.

The highlight of the event was the official ASIA Record achievement for the “Heaviest Aircraft Towed by a Foldable Smartphone”. Using only the hinge mechanism of the HONOR Magic V6, the device successfully towed a 1.25 tonne Diamond DA42 aircraft across a distance of 150 metres.

Watching a slim foldable smartphone slowly pull an aircraft across the tarmac was surreal enough, but HONOR did not stop there.
The feat was accompanied with another live durability test involving a Ferrari sports car, which the Magic V6 managed to pull for 30 metres.

To further demonstrate the structural integrity of the hinge, the device was also used as a pull up bar during the showcase.

Even after all three demonstrations, the HONOR Magic V6 remained fully functional without visible damage to its display or frame.
According to HONOR, much of the device’s durability improvements come from its new HONOR Super Steel Hinge, which is rated at 2,800 MPa tensile strength. The hinge has also completed 500,000 folding cycle tests, which HONOR claims is equivalent to more than 13 years of daily usage.
Despite the reinforced construction, the Magic V6 remains impressively slim at just 8.75mm when folded, continuing HONOR’s focus on ultra thin foldable designs.
The outer display of the HONOR Magic V6 also introduces a new Anti Scratch Nano Crystal Shield featuring a 5,600 layer silicon nitride coating.
HONOR claims this delivers 10 times better drop resistance, 15 times better scratch resistance, and 3 times better anti reflection performance compared to the previous HONOR Magic V5.
During the event, the company even demonstrated the durability of the external display using an electric hand scrubber machine after subjecting it to 27,000 cycles of steel wool abrasion testing.

The inner display features HONOR Magic Diamond Screen technology with Ultra Thin Glass, designed to reduce visible creasing while improving long term durability. The display has also received several certifications, including SGS 5 Star Reliability Low Reflectivity Certification and TÜV Rheinland 24 hour Battery Life Certification.

Another notable upgrade is its water and dust resistance. The HONOR Magic V6 is the company’s first foldable smartphone to achieve both IP68 and IP69 ratings, allowing it to withstand water depths of up to 1.5 metres. This places it among the more rugged foldable devices currently entering the market.
