[Review] AiFOKATO Brings Viral Florence Affogato Concept to Singapore at Telok Ayer

Sometimes, you just need a proper pause.

Enter AiFOKATO, a brand new takeaway kiosk that brings the viral Florentine affogato concept to the CBD in Singapore at Telok Ayer.

Brought to us by the folks behind the highly popular Tofu G Gelato, this minimalist booth offers busy professionals a visually striking and interactive dessert experience that forces you to slow down, even if just for a few minutes.

The concept here is built around the beauty of a slow pour over true artisanal gelato.

The affogato at AiFOKATO is distinctive in appearance with its diamond faceted gelato scoops, meticulously sculpted to melt gracefully when met with a hot beverage.

It is also the first fully customisable DIY affogato experience in Singapore. For S a cup, you get to play mix and match.

You start by selecting one of four dairy based, egg free, and gluten free gelato flavours. The choices are Madagascar Vanilla, Premium Korean Matcha, Callebaut Dark Chocolate, and their signature Premium Pistachio.

Then, you choose your hot pour from an excellent medium roast Brazil and Colombia espresso blend, an intensely dark chocolate pour, or a refined matcha pour.

We headed down to their cozy wood paneled spot at 111 Telok Ayer Street on a Friday morning to try it out. The kiosk mainly operates on a takeaway basis with just a few stools outside, making it best suited for a quick dessert break. We tried four different combinations.

First up was the classic Vanilla x Espresso. It is a timeless combination where the sweet, creamy aroma of the vanilla blends seamlessly with the aromatic coffee.

Next, we had the Pistachio x Espresso. The robust coffee can occasionally overpower the milder nuttiness of the pistachio, but we found the contrast quite enjoyable. In fact, it is a beautiful way to perk up mid afternoon.

For the tea lovers, the Matcha x Matcha delivers a nutty flavour with a clean, naturally bitter finish.

Finally, the Chocolate x Chocolate was an absolute chocolate lover’s dream, featuring deep cocoa notes and low acidity.

A word of advice for anyone planning to visit is to enjoy your creation quickly. The pours are served hot over cold gelato and as such, the dessert melts fast in the Singapore heat. You will want to scoop the gelato from the edges and let it mix with the liquid right away.

Beyond the affogatos, the kiosk’s menu also features other trendy items for those looking to switch things up.

You will spot the Minus 86 Dirty Coffee, which is their take on the layered hot over cold coffee movement currently trending across Asia.

Additionally, they offer Butter Mochi, a South Korean street food craze known as butter tteok that has been dominating social media and cafe scenes overseas.
