Tourism Fiji and Douyin Travel Launch AI Travel Planner, Redefining Destination Marketing

In a bold step toward intelligent destination marketing, Tourism Fiji has partnered with Douyin Travel to officially launch the Fiji AI Travel Planner on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. The initiative marks a significant milestone in applying artificial intelligence to tourism promotion within the Chinese market.

With this move, Fiji becomes one of the first overseas national tourism organisations to roll out an AI-powered promotional tool on the platform, setting a new benchmark for how destinations can engage travellers in the digital age.

As Tourism Fiji’s first pilot project focused on AI-driven travel planning, the collaboration aims to reshape the traveller journey, from initial inspiration to final itinerary creation. By integrating artificial intelligence into the planning process, the project enhances engagement with Chinese travellers while streamlining their decision-making experience.

Powered by the technological expertise of ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, the Fiji AI Travel Planner leverages advanced AI interaction, content recommendation algorithms, and user interest modelling. The result is a conversational AI interface that intelligently blends destination content, user preferences, and itinerary planning into one seamless experience.

From Inspiration to Instant Planning

The AI Travel Planner is embedded directly within Fiji-related short-form videos on Douyin. When users engage with Fiji content, they can activate the AI assistant with a single click, enabling real-time interaction.

Using conversation history, viewing context, personal interests, travel dates, and user profiles, the system generates tailored travel inspiration, recommends dining spots, accommodation options, themed experiences, and produces customised multi-day itineraries.

This seamless shift, from browsing travel content to generating actionable plans, moves destination marketing beyond simple exposure. Instead, it introduces a service-oriented model that actively supports travellers in making confident and informed decisions.
