In the Mood for Love In Concert to Enchant Singapore with Live Orchestra at Marina Bay Sands

Wong Kar Wai’s cinematic masterpiece In the Mood for Love is set to return to Singapore in a breathtaking new format this October. Presented by Base Entertainment Asia, In the Mood for Love In Concert will take the stage at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, on 24 and 25 October 2026, offering audiences an immersive experience that blends film and live symphonic performance. Tickets are now on sale.

The concert will screen the fully restored classic in stunning full HD on the big screen, accompanied by a live orchestra performing the film’s iconic soundtrack in perfect synchronisation. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful films ever made, In the Mood for Love is celebrated for its poetic storytelling, lush visuals and emotionally resonant score by composer Shigeru Umebayashi.

Originally released in 2000, the film tells the tender and bittersweet story of two neighbours, played by Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, who discover their spouses are having an affair. As they grapple with betrayal, loneliness and restraint, a quiet yet profound bond develops between them. The film’s restrained romance, heightened by Wong Kar Wai’s signature use of colour, slow motion and intimate close-ups, has cemented its status as a timeless classic.

Described by Wong Kar Wai as “a poem itself,” the haunting soundtrack will be brought to life by the BASE Philharmonic Orchestra, comprising talented local musicians. Leading the orchestra is internationally acclaimed Singaporean conductor Joshua Tan.

A graduate of The Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, Tan has conducted major orchestras worldwide, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. A recipient of Singapore’s prestigious Young Artist Award, he is known for his versatility across symphonic, operatic, ballet, film and multimedia repertoire. Under his baton, audiences can expect a performance that captures both the technical precision and emotional nuance of Umebayashi’s evocative score.

By weaving together fashion, music, light, colour and cinematic storytelling, In the Mood for Love In Concert promises to deepen the emotional textures of the original film, offering fans and newcomers alike a fresh way to experience one of cinema’s most enduring love stories.
