Garmin Singapore has unveiled the Varia RearVue 820, its latest radar tail light designed to enhance cyclist safety and visibility on the road. Touted as the brand’s brightest and most advanced model to date, the new device introduces upgraded radar technology that delivers more precise vehicle detection and smarter alerts for riders.
Built to provide greater awareness in real time, the Varia RearVue 820 pairs with compatible Garmin Edge cycling computers, select Garmin smartwatches, or the Varia smartphone app to notify cyclists of approaching vehicles from behind.
At the heart of the Varia RearVue 820 is enhanced radar capability that can detect vehicles from over 190 yards away. The upgraded system not only tracks approaching vehicles but also analyses their size, side-to-side movement and speed to determine threat levels.
Cyclists receive both visual and audible alerts when vehicles approach or change lanes behind them. The system categorises potential risks based on speed and trajectory, helping riders gauge whether an approaching vehicle poses a higher threat.
A new vehicle size detection feature further enhances awareness by identifying whether an approaching vehicle is small, medium or large, information displayed directly on compatible Edge devices or within the Varia app.
The radar’s wider field of view allows it to monitor movement across multiple lanes, while same-speed tracking notifies riders of vehicles travelling behind them at similar speeds or waiting to overtake.
For added convenience, select Garmin smartwatches offer vibrating alerts, and through Garmin’s Public Beta programme, certain models can also provide voice alerts for approaching vehicles.
The Varia RearVue 820 is Garmin’s brightest radar tail light yet, offering visibility from over 1.2 miles away. Designed for both daytime and nighttime riding, it features multiple lighting modes including day flash, night flash, solid mode and peloton mode.
Cyclists can customise brightness levels and flash durations through the Varia app to suit different riding conditions. The device also functions as a brake light, automatically detecting when a rider slows down or stops and activating a distinct flashing pattern to alert other road users.
Battery performance has also been enhanced, delivering up to 24 hours in day flash mode and up to 30 hours in radar-only mode, allowing cyclists to ride longer with added peace of mind.
The Varia RearVue 820 features a sleek, modern design, complete with a USB-C charging port and a newly designed seat post mount that fits securely on most road and gravel bikes.
The Garmin Varia RearVue 820 will be available from 27 February 2026 at a suggested retail price of SGD 389. It can be purchased at Garmin Brand Stores, the Garmin Online Store, Lazada, Shopee, Takashimaya and selected authorised retailers.
