This Chinese New Year, I checked out the festive buffet at Element, Amara Singapore. The spread is designed for those who want a mix of indulgence and festivity, and there’s a lot to enjoy if seafood and traditional favourites are your thing.

The unlimited seafood definitely stole the show for me. There were fresh scallops, prawns, oysters, white clams, and even lobster. Everything tasted clean and sweet, just as you’d hope from a buffet.

The sushi bar was another highlight. Thick-cut salmon, tuna, and squid sashimi were all fresh, and there were plenty of maki and nigiri options. I particularly enjoyed the octopus rolls which were flavourful and sweet, with a crabmeat surprise inside.

For mains, the buffet leaned into festive classics. The roasted suckling pig and Cantonese roast duck were definite standouts, and there was also a good range of comforting Asian dishes

On the cooked side, there were options like pasta, cheese-crusted fish, pork trotter, and even a live mala noodle station where you could watch your noodles being made on the spot.

Desserts were thematic and fun. I tried the mandarin orange creme brulee, freshly fried niangao, Chinese New Year-decorated layer cakes, traditional kwehs, and the comforting cheng tng.

There was also an assortment of CNY cookies, from pineapple tarts and love letters to pea cookies. To end off, there’s a do-it-yourself ice cream station and a make-your-own pancake setup with a wide variety of toppings. My personal favourite were the choco balls, which paired really well with almost every dessert.
