Hong Kong is set to welcome 2026 in dazzling style as the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) unveils a brand-new edition of the Hong Kong New Year Countdown, transforming Central into a vibrant stage of music, light and shared celebration.

Taking place on New Year’s Eve at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct, this year’s countdown carries the uplifting theme “New Hopes, New Beginnings”, blending live performances with an immersive light show across some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Headlining the star-studded lineup is internationally renowned soft rock duo Air Supply, joined by popular local artistes Jay Fung and Cloud Wan. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, a children’s choir and the Hong Kong Police Band will also take the stage, creating a multi-generational, feel-good countdown experience.
As midnight approaches, the façades of eight iconic buildings in Central will transform into giant illuminated countdown clocks. When the clock strikes 12, these landmarks will burst into a three-minute synchronised light show, sending heartfelt New Year blessings to audiences on-site and around the world. The event is fully supported by Hongkong Land.
Watch It Live Across Hong Kong
If you’re heading into Central, you can catch the action live on giant outdoor LED screens at Chater Garden and Edinburgh Place. Do note that phased road closures around Chater Road will begin from around 6pm on New Year’s Eve, and Winter Wonderland in Central will close early at 4pm.
Celebrations won’t be limited to Central. In Tsim Sha Tsui, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre will project the countdown show onto its façade, while in Wan Chai, a massive countdown clock will light up the exterior of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, allowing crowds across the city to share in the moment together.
