Chegoya and Pizza Maru have come together at Plaza Singapura for a dual-concept collaboration that brings two well-loved Korean brands under one roof. Chegoya, which means “The Best” in Korean, is known for its comforting, home-style dishes, while Pizza Maru is a familiar favourite for its green tea wellbeing dough pizzas and crowd-pleasing fried chicken.
This is the first time in Singapore where diners can enjoy Chegoya’s Korean comfort food alongside Pizza Maru’s pizzas and sides in one seating, making it an easy choice for groups with different cravings.
One of the biggest reasons to visit is the Red Corn Pizza, which is exclusive to the Plaza Singapura outlet. Previously only available in Korea, this pizza comes generously topped with creamy cheese, sweet corn, ham and crunchy corn flakes. It leans towards sweet and savoury, is unapologetically cheesy, and surprisingly easy to keep eating. While the green tea wellbeing dough does not have a strong tea flavour, it provides a lighter base that does not feel too heavy, even after a few slices.
We also tried the Kimchi Pancake, which was a pleasant surprise, especially for someone who is not usually a veggie lover. Fried till nicely crisp, it was packed with flavour and had a good balance of tanginess and savoury notes in every bite.
The Boneless Fried Chicken in Gochu Mayo was another must-try item. The chicken was crispy and golden on the outside, with tender meat inside. The seasoning was well done, and while the sauce looks spicy, it delivered more flavour than heat, making it approachable even for those who prefer milder dishes.
We also had the Honey Butter Cheese Stick, which lived up to expectations with an impressive cheese pull. It made for a great side to share, well-seasoned and indulgent without feeling overly rich.
Over at Chegoya, the hotstone rice bowls were comforting and satisfying, especially if you are looking for something hearty. The Beef Bulgogi Cheesy Hotstone Rice stood out with rice that was crispy at the edges yet moist in the middle. The sauce was generous, the beef was flavourful, and the cheese added richness without feeling jelak.
The Spicy Chicken Cheesy Hotstone Rice was also less intimidating than it sounds. Even for those who are not great with spice, it was manageable, with a gentle kimchi flavour that paired well with the cheesy rice.
We paired the dishes with the Grapefruit Soda and Curacao Soda. Each drink came in a jug rather than a single glass, which were generously filled with fruit slices. The drinks were refreshing, fun to share, and helped balance out the richness of the food.
Another nice touch at Chegoya x Pizza Maru is the free-flow sides station. Diners can help themselves to kimchi, sweet corn, pickled radish, and Korean beansprout to pair with your meal.
