[Review] Dream Academy’s Happy Ever Laughter PARTY Delivers on Post-election Big Laughs

Singapore’s comedy scene lit up at Capitol Theatre in Singapore with Happy Ever Laughter PARTY, a post-election comedy showcase presented by Dream Academy.

Featuring a stellar lineup including Fakkah Fuzz, Broadway Beng, Sharul Channa, Rishi Budhrani, and rising talents like Bree Wang and the Yah Lah BUT podcast duo, the show offered a mix of political satire, relatable local humour, and high-energy performances.

Veteran comedians Broadway Beng and Fakkah Fuzz emerged as clear crowd favorites.

Broadway Beng had the audience in stitches with his reimagined karaoke hits, cleverly parodying politicians across the spectrum from President Tharman to SDP’s Dr. Chee. His over-the-top delivery and engaging stage presence kept the energy soaring.

Meanwhile, Fakkah Fuzz proved why he’s one of Singapore’s funniest, blending racial humour with witty takes on local politics, all without leaning too heavily on vulgarity or shock value.

Sharul Channa and Rishi Budhrani brought their signature styles, though I felt their leaning towards risqué jokes might have overshadowed their material. A pity. That said, their sets still drew roaring laughter from much of the crowd, so it could be just down to personal preference.

The newer faces, including social media comedians and podcasters, showed promise but lacked the polished delivery of their seasoned counterparts. While their material was entertaining, more stage time and crowd work could elevate their performances. They will over get better with each show, so do support local comedians!

Timed as a fun, post-election recap, the show’s political jabs hit close to home, though an even earlier date would probably have enabled the satire to hit harder. Regardless, the variety of topics, from everyday Singaporean life to broader societal quirks, ensured something for everyone, even for people who are disinterested in politics.

For those seeking a night of laughter, Happy Ever Laughter PARTY delivers. With seasoned pros and fresh talent sharing the stage, it’s a celebration of Singaporean humour at its best. Catch it before the curtains close.
