Singapore’s maritime industry is setting sail toward a sustainable future as Pyxis, a homegrown electric vessel start-up, officially launches Pyxis R, the nation’s first solar-powered river ferry. Delivered to leading cruise operator WaterB, the innovative vessel was unveiled at a landmark event, “Our River, Reimagined”, at the ArtScience Museum. Graced by Senior Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Baey Yam Keng and attended by over 200 industry leaders, the launch signals a bold step toward net-zero maritime travel.

Pioneering Green River Travel
Building on the success of its first electric vessel series, Pyxis One, launched in March 2024, Pyxis continues to push boundaries in sustainable maritime design. The Pyxis R fleet integrates Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, allowing excess solar-generated energy to be exported back to Singapore’s electricity grid—a game-changing feature for energy resilience. This milestone is reinforced by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Pyxis Maritime, SP Mobility, The Mobility House Asia Pacific (TMH), and WaterB to pilot V2G solutions.

Electra: Smart Maritime Innovation
The Pyxis R vessels are powered by Electra, an intelligent fleet management system that enhances efficiency and sustainability through:
- Real-time tracking for seamless operations
- Smart charging with predictive scheduling
- Data-driven maintenance to extend vessel lifespan
- Emissions tracking for regulatory compliance

Transforming the Singapore River Experience
By April 2025, WaterB will launch two Pyxis R vessels for scenic cruises along the Singapore River, with plans to replace half of its 20-boat fleet with Pyxis R models by the end of the year. Offering a quiet, smooth, and eco-friendly ride through the heart of the city, the fleet will significantly reduce emissions, aligning with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to position the nation as a leading sustainable tourism hub.
Global Recognition & Expansion
Pyxis’ groundbreaking innovations have drawn interest from industry leaders in Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia, paving the way for international expansion. The company previously made waves with Pyxis One, initially deployed by major players like Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and GAC. In April 2024, Pyxis, in partnership with SP Group, introduced Singapore’s first public electric charging point for maritime transport at Marina South Pier.
