[Review] Revamped Menu at lLido Group’s Amò Italian Restaurant in Hong Kong Street

Amidst the vibrant culinary enclave of Hong Kong Street, Amò differentiates itself with a focus on blending traditional Italian flavours and contemporary dining experiences.

Established by restaurateur-chef Beppe De Vito of the ilLido Group, this smart-casual eatery has become a cherished destination for both locals and expatriates seeking authentic Italian cuisine in Singapore. We visited on a weekday evening for dinner and the restaurant was buzzing with guests streaming in and out. From the way they waltzed in and seemed to know the staff, many of them appeared to be regulars.

The recently refreshed menu at Amò is anchored on Italy’s rich culinary heritage, offering a diverse selection of antipasti, wood-fired pizzas, homemade pastas, and hearty mains. Diners are encouraged to share dishes, fostering an atmosphere reminiscent of large Italian family gatherings.

During our dinner tasting, we indulged in the following dishes, shared between two person:

Wagyu Beef Carpaccio with Rucola, Parmigiano, and Truffle Relish ($26): Delicately sliced Wagyu beef complemented by fresh arugula, shaved Parmesan, and a fragrant truffle relish. We love this light, yet flavour-packed savoury dish.

The dishes at Amò exuded the comforting essence of Italian home-cooked meals. Prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the prime location and the quality of the offerings.

We were too full to try their wood-fired pizza after we finished our mains, but it does look enticing. The restaurant is said to employ a long, temperature-controlled fermentation process using an aged mother starter cultivated in-house, to deliver light, easily digestible pizzas with a delightful crispness. The use of an Italian-made stone wood-fired oven, fueled by specially-imported almond wood, are said to impart a distinctive smoky flavour to the crust. We will definitely have to try their pizza on our next visit.

For drinks, the bar features an all-Italian selection of wines, beers, and spirit-forward cocktails. An extensive wine list represents various Italian regions, with up to twenty wines available by the glass at any time.

Housed in a sprawling shophouse dating back to the 1950s, Amò’s interior design pays homage to its heritage with exposed brick walls, vintage mosaic floor tiles, and rich wood and stone accents. A private dining room accommodates intimate gatherings, while an outdoor courtyard, adorned with a hand-painted mural by local artist Venetia Stravens, offers a charming al fresco dining experience.

Overall, we like the bustling vibe at Amò and would recommend it for a more casual, fun dining experience with family and friends when you have a craving for elevated Italian comfort food.
