Changi Airport Welcomes Chinese New Year with Stunning Sanrio-Themed Floral Displays

Changi Airport is ringing in the Chinese New Year with a burst of color and charm, transforming its terminals into vibrant showcases of festive cheer. From now until 16 February, visitors and travelers can explore stunning horticultural displays featuring beloved Sanrio characters alongside traditional Chinese New Year motifs like cherry blossoms, mandarin oranges, and firecrackers.

Festive Florals Meet Sanrio Magic

Spread across 14 locations in Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4, the meticulously curated displays by Changi Airport’s Horticulture team seamlessly blend traditional symbolism with the playful appeal of Sanrio characters.

A standout feature is the Celosia argentea, or Dragon’s Beard, known for its fiery red and yellow blooms that symbolize prosperity, protection, and new beginnings. Also gracing the displays are Four Season Lime plants, with their golden, fruit-laden branches resembling wealth and abundance.

The arrangements are further enhanced with Hydrangeas, their tightly clustered yellow and pink florets representing family unity, balance, and good fortune. Tying it all together are delicate pink cherry blossoms, a nod to the Spring Festival, symbolizing hope, longevity, and renewal.

A Tribute to Chinese New Year Traditions

The displays go beyond flora to include iconic festive elements like firecrackers, mandarin oranges, and red packets (hongbao). Firecrackers signify driving away negativity, while the bright hues of oranges and hongbao represent wealth, prosperity, and the sharing of blessings.

Through these thoughtful details, Changi Airport not only enchants visitors with its visual splendor but also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Chinese New Year.
