The viral sensation from Bangkok, Running Egg, known for its oozy, creamy golden egg rice, has made its way to Singapore. This unique offering promises to bring the authentic flavors of Thailand to local diners. Only a few minutes away from Ang Mo Kio MRT, and just right next to Ang Mo Kio Central, Running Egg is not only affordable and delicious, but accessible too.
Neither an omelet nor scrambled eggs, Running Egg is a bowl of perfectly half-cooked yolks poured over rice and topped with various flavourful add-ons. While similar to danlao in Singapore, Running Egg is different in the sense that it’s less cooked, resulting in a creamier texture. Each dish features no less than four premium Thai eggs cooked to achieve an ideal creamy texture.
The menu in Singapore includes four signature dishes from the original Bangkok restaurant:
Prawn: Runny egg on rice with tiny prawns, as well as plenty of pepper and peppery sauce. The prawns went great with the egg and rice, but I felt that there was a bit too much pepper, and some pepper was left ungrounded, which left it a bit gritty. But overall, the dish was great, and for $7.80, extremely affordable and value-for-money.
Chicken Basil: Runny egg and rice topped with chicken bits, basil, and chili. Perfect for those who like spicy food, giving it an extra punch.
Pork Jowl: Runny egg topped with a plentiful amount of pork. Delicious meaty goodness paired with creamy egg, full of protein and perfect for meat lovers.
Luncheon Meat: Running Egg topped with luncheon meat, a taste more catered to the Singaporean palate.
Additionally, there are multiple add-ons you can order to bring even more flavour to your Running Egg meal, such as luncheon meat, chicken basil, prawn, pork jowl, and moo ping (2 pieces). The moo ping is sweet, juicy, and succulent, sure to add flavour to your meal as a side dish or as a topping on your Running Egg.
Running Egg was founded by Harold Tan, a former banker turned food entrepreneur. Tan’s love for eggs led him on countless trips to Bangkok, where he discovered the “running egg” rice dish at the bustling restaurant Hereduan. The dish, which recently took TikTok by storm, is a favorite among Bangkok locals, who flock to the restaurant daily to enjoy its creamy, golden goodness.
Tan saw an opportunity to bring this iconic dish to Singapore, ensuring that every ingredient – from the eggs to the rice and condiments – is imported directly from Thailand for an authentic dining experience.
Running Egg has garnered immense popularity on TikTok, with videos showcasing its rich, creamy egg dishes amassing millions of views. Now, Singaporeans can indulge in the viral sensation without traveling to Bangkok.
Running Egg is open now in Singapore, inviting egg lovers to experience this golden delight firsthand.
