[10% OFF PROMO CODE] Stay Connected Anywhere with Airalo eSIM

Staying connected while traveling abroad is essential for navigation, communication, and accessing information while on the move. Traditional roaming services often come with high costs and limited flexibility, prompting travelers to seek more convenient alternatives. One such solution is Airalo, an eSIM store offering affordable digital SIM cards for over 200 countries and regions.

We recently used Airalo’s eSIMs during two separate trips from Singapore to Fukuoka, Japan, and to Shanghai, China. This was the first time we tried using an eSIM and we found the process seamless and convenient, without the need to insert a physical travel SIM card.

Airalo’s eSIMs are designed for easy installation and activation. You can purchase an eSIM through the Airalo website or app, select your destination country, and choose a suitable data plan.

The installation involves scanning a QR code or following on-screen instructions to download the eSIM profile to your device. This process eliminates the need to visit physical stores or handle physical SIM cards, making it particularly convenient for time-starved travelers.

For both Japan and China eSIMs, the setup was straightforward, with the eSIM activating upon arrival and connected to local networks. This immediate connectivity is crucial for tasks such as arranging transportation or accessing maps upon landing.

The user-friendly interface of the Airalo app further enhances the experience by allowing you to manage your eSIMs, monitor data usage, and purchase top-ups as necessary.

Cost-Effectiveness Compared to Traditional Roaming

Traditional international roaming plans offered by Singaporean carriers can be expensive, often charging daily rates ranging from S$10 to S$15. In contrast, Airalo provides more affordable data plans.

For instance, in Japan, Airalo offers a 1 GB eSIM valid for 7 days at US$4.50, and a 20 GB eSIM valid for 30 days at US$26.00.

Similarly, in China, Airalo’s Chinacom eSIM offers 1 GB for 7 days at US$5.00 and 10 GB for 30 days at US$28.00.

Advantages Over Other Roaming Options

  • Local Connectivity: Airalo partners with local carriers to provide reliable network coverage, allowing users to connect like locals without relying on their home provider’s roaming agreements.
  • Flexibility: With Airalo, travelers can purchase eSIMs and top them up without contacting their carrier, accommodating changes in travel plans seamlessly.
  • Multiple eSIM Profiles: Most smartphones support multiple eSIM profiles, enabling users to store and switch between different eSIMs as they travel across various countries.
  • No Hidden Fees: Airalo’s eSIMs are prepaid, ensuring transparency and eliminating unexpected charges associated with traditional roaming plans Airalo.

While Airalo offers numerous benefits, there are some considerations to keep in mind before you get an eSIM:

  • Data-Only Plans: Many of Airalo’s eSIMs are data-only, lacking SMS and voice call capabilities. Travelers who require a local phone number for calls or texts may need to use internet-based messaging apps or seek alternative solutions.
  • Device Compatibility: Not all devices support eSIM technology. It is essential to verify that your smartphone is eSIM-compatible before purchasing Airalo.
  • Network Speeds: Network performance can vary depending on the local carrier partnerships.
