Resorts World Sentosa (RWS, 圣淘沙名胜世界) has officially commenced its highly anticipated waterfront lifestyle development, setting the stage for a transformative project slated to redefine luxury and leisure by 2030. A groundbreaking ceremony, graced by Guest of Honour Mr. Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community and Youth, marked this milestone alongside government officials, RWS executives, and representatives from China Metallurgical Group Corporation.
A Sustainable Beginning
As a symbolic gesture of commitment to sustainability, VIPs planted hopea odorata saplings, a native Dipterocarp species known for its ecological importance. These saplings will be nurtured in a nursery until they are ready to be transplanted into the new outdoor oasis. This act underscores RWS’s dedication to preserving nature while delivering world-class experiences.
A Visionary Waterfront Experience
The new waterfront development will feature:
- Waterfront Promenade: A vibrant, shaded boulevard lined with retail, dining, and entertainment options, seamlessly connecting Sentosa Boardwalk to the resort.
- Iconic Sculpture: Designed by Heatherwick Studio, an 88-meter-tall light sculpture will serve as the centerpiece, captivating visitors with dazzling nightly performances.
- Immersive Mountain Trail: A scenic 88-meter-high trail showcasing biodiversity and offering breathtaking views of Singapore’s Central Business District, Greater Southern Waterfront, and beyond.
Luxury Redefined
Two new luxury hotels, adding 700 rooms, will complement RWS’s existing portfolio of six premier properties. These hotels promise unparalleled comfort and sophistication for discerning travelers.
A Commitment to Sustainability
RWS is setting a benchmark for sustainable tourism with innovative practices, including:
- BCA Green Mark Platinum Certification aspirations.
- Use of low-carbon concrete, reducing carbon emissions by 29,500 tCO₂e.
- Renewable energy integration, including solar panels and EV charging stations.
- Rainwater harvesting for irrigation and daylight optimization to minimize energy use.
This groundbreaking project not only aims to rejuvenate Singapore’s Greater Southern Waterfront but also showcases RWS’s vision for harmonizing luxury, nature, and sustainability.
