Singapore Media Festival Returns to Celebrate Asian Films, Industry Collaborations, and Regional Talent

The Singapore Media Festival (SMF) returns from 28 November to 8 December 2024, bringing Asia’s media community together for its 11th edition.

Organised by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), SMF will spotlight films, innovations, and collaborative opportunities across its key events: the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), Singapore Comic Con (SGCC), and Nas Summit Asia.

This year’s SMF is set to feature more than 100 films from 45 countries, including the premiere of “Stranger Eyes,” a psychological thriller by renowned Singaporean director Yeo Siew Hua. The festival will host over 55,000 industry professionals, talents, and audiences, highlighting Singapore’s role as a media hub. Following a history of generating S$3.04 billion in deals, the festival continues to connect Asia’s creative industry with global media leaders, including Warner Bros. Discovery, TVING, Youku, and Tencent.

Key Highlights from the Festival

Film Showcases

SGIFF will present a dynamic range of Asian cinema, including “Spirit World” by Eric Khoo and the award-winning “Don’t Cry, Butterfly.” Taiwanese actor Lee Kang-sheng, star of “Stranger Eyes,” will receive the SGIFF Cinema Icon Award, celebrating his contributions to Asian cinema.

Pop Culture at Singapore Comic Con

SGCC, held on 7-8 December, will merge Asian and Western pop culture, offering fans exclusive experiences and merchandise. New technologies like augmented reality will enhance interactions, while exclusive SGCC merchandise and toys, such as the Mighty Jaxx Luffy XXRAY Treasure Gold Edition, will make their global debut.

Industry Insights and Media Innovation

The 25th ATF from 3-6 December will see leaders from global media giants sharing insights on Asia’s media trends and future challenges. ATF will host six in-development pitches for projects centered on Asian stories, marking a record high for the event.

Content Creation at Nas Summit Asia

The Nas Summit Asia, returning on 30 November, will provide content creators with hands-on workshops and networking opportunities. Creators like Jaspers Lai and Smile with Jeryl will share their expertise with over 1,000 attendees, covering everything from storytelling to social media strategies.
