Mark Cavendish to Race His Last at Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium 2024

The legendary Mark Cavendish is set to take on his final professional race at the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium 2024, marking the end of a spectacular career. At 39, Cavendish holds the record for the most Tour de France stage wins (35) and is a two-time competitor at the Singapore event, where he finished runner-up last year. His farewell on November 9-10 will undoubtedly be a highlight, but the action won’t stop there.

This year’s event promises a star-studded lineup, featuring some of cycling’s biggest names and rising talents. The race will take place at Esplanade Park, where fans will witness world-class cyclists vying for victory. Competing alongside Cavendish will be Slovenia’s Primoz Roglic, a three-time Tour de France stage winner and 2023 Giro d’Italia champion, riding for the TDF Legends team. He’ll be joined by four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome, Japan’s Yukiya Arashiro, and Italian cycling great Vincenzo Nibali, who’s making a special appearance after retiring in 2022. Nibali is one of only seven cyclists to have won all three Grand Tours.

Other top riders include France’s Anthony Turgis, who claimed his first Tour de France stage win this year, and Norway’s Jonas Abrahamsen, who had a breakout season in 2023. The field will also include Belgian riders Victor Campenaerts, Arnaud de Lie, and Thomas de Gendt, adding even more depth to the competition.

Singapore will proudly be represented by national road race champion Yeo Boon Kiak and other homegrown talents, including Arfan Bin Faisal, Eamon Lim, and Tong Khoon Fung, bringing local pride to the international stage.

Beyond the race, spectators can enjoy a lively weekend of activities at the inaugural TDF SG Family Day on November 9. The Festival Village will be packed with carnival games, a Funtasica bouncy castle, and delicious food offerings. Fans will also have the chance to win prizes, including a Wilier bike frame signed by Cavendish, during on-stage giveaways.

Families can join the Family Ride on the race track with bikes provided by Anywheel, while cycling enthusiasts can shop for merchandise from top brands like Santini, Wilier, and BYX.

With tickets starting at just $10, the event offers an affordable way for fans to experience the thrill of elite cycling and the festivities surrounding it. Premium and VIP tickets are also available for those seeking a closer view of the action. For non-professional cyclists, the PRURide Seeker’s Criterium will allow over 170 qualifiers to race on the same track as the pros.
