As excitement builds for the upcoming FIDE World Chess Championship in Singapore, two of the nation’s top athletes traded their sports for chess pieces in a thrilling blitz match on a giant chessboard.
Danelle Tan, Team Singapore footballer and new signee of Brisbane Roar, faced off against Max Maeder, Olympic kitefoiling bronze medallist, in a friendly two-round game ahead of the prestigious championship, set to take place at Resorts World Sentosa from 23 November to 15 December 2024.
In an exciting turn, Danelle secured victory and graciously donated $1,000 to Tasek Academy and Social Services, a contribution made possible by the Singapore Chess Federation.
