Clementi is set to deepen its connection with its rich history as the National Heritage Board (NHB) launches its second Heritage Activation Node (HAN) in collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). This initiative aims to celebrate Clementi’s past, from its origins as a forested area to its status as one of Singapore’s early HDB towns.
HAN@Clementi will spotlight Clementi’s heritage through a variety of engaging projects and events, developed in partnership with Institutes of Higher Learning, local community members, and volunteers known as HAN Heritage Champions. Highlights of the initiative include a weekend launch festival, a refreshed heritage wall at Clementi Public Library, and a new heritage mural at Clementi MRT Station.
Key Components of HAN@Clementi
- Heritage Spaces: Revitalizing Clementi’s heritage through cultural and historical installations.
- Heritage Programming: Offering guided trails, workshops, exhibitions, and more.
- Heritage Champions: Community volunteers actively involved in various heritage projects.
Youth Focus and Community Collaboration
As Clementi is a hub for educational institutions, NHB has partnered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic to infuse HAN@Clementi with a youth-oriented approach. NP will play a pivotal role in developing heritage programs, recruiting and training volunteers, and engaging over 130 student and community volunteers in the launch festival. Other collaborations include Singapore Polytechnic, the Singapore University of Social Sciences, local schools, heritage businesses, and neighborhood partners.
