Discover the Nature and Heart of Human Experience at Singapore Writers Festival 2024

The Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) returns for its 27th edition from November 8 to 17, 2024, offering an immersive journey into the essence of humanity and our connection with nature. Under the new direction of Yong Shu Hoong, this year’s theme, “In Our Nature,” invites you to explore over 200 thought-provoking programs designed to inspire reflection on what it truly means to be human.

Explore the Festival Theme: In Our Nature

This year’s theme delves into the human experience and our relationship with the natural world. With contributions from over 300 local and international presenters, SWF 2024 presents a diverse array of programs, including signature events like the Literary Pioneer series, Youth Fringe, and the newly introduced Festival Tracks such as SWF Encounters.

Creative Intersections in Literature and the Natural World

As the world grapples with climate change, SWF 2024 highlights literature’s role in fostering environmental consciousness. Don’t miss “Eco-Poetry: Mapping Out Our Relationship with Nature,” where poets explore the harmony and disharmony between humanity and the environment. Engage in “Planet in Focus: Strategies for Environmental Sustainability,” where academics discuss actionable steps to combat the climate crisis.

Celebrating Literary and Cultural Heritage

This year’s Literary Pioneer, Lew Poo Chan, known as Dan Ying, will be honored with a touring exhibition and live performances, showcasing her influential poetry that resonates with the festival’s theme. Additionally, SWF 2024 continues to celebrate Singapore’s multilingual literary landscape with curated programs in Chinese, Malay, and Tamil, fostering cross-cultural dialogues and understanding.

A Global Literary Exchange

International literary stars will headline the festival, including Canadian novelist Esi Edugyan, Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka, and American poet Gregory Pardlo. For younger audiences, the festival offers engaging programs featuring authors like Krystal Sutherland and Rin Chupeco, along with interactive sessions for children and families.

Community Engagement and Accessibility

SWF 2024 is committed to reaching diverse audiences, with a focus on seniors, youth, and families. Programs like “Memory Bank: A Workshop on Life Writing” encourage personal storytelling, while the “Youth Fringe” offers creative spaces for young voices. The festival also extends its reach through the SWF In Conjunction Festival Track, bringing literary events to communities beyond the central area of Singapore.

Join the Singapore Writers Festival 2024 from November 8 to 17, and explore the heart of the human experience through literature, art, and meaningful conversations. Early Bird tickets are available from September 3 to October 14, 2024. Visit the official SWF website for more details and to secure your spot at this year’s festival.
