Mandai’s Good Threads by Anak has clinched the prestigious Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2024, taking home the accolade in the Best Design, Asia Pacific category.
The Innovation by Design Awards, featured in the Summer 2024 issue of Fast Company, celebrate designers and businesses addressing today’s most crucial problems and anticipating future challenges. This esteemed competition, now in its 13th year, has previously recognized industry giants such as Nike, The New York Times, Figma, and Collins. The awards are highly coveted, attracting blue-chip companies, emerging startups, and promising new talent alike.
In an era where sustainability is paramount, Mandai’s Good Threads represents a groundbreaking shift in performance wear. This innovative collection tackles a unique challenge: creating attire suited for the “urban jungle,” the environment where over half of the world’s population resides. Unlike traditional performance wear designed for mountains, deserts, and forests, Good Threads focuses on the needs of city dwellers. Notable designs include the Tote-Shorts and the Bucket-Bag Hat, which are not only functional and stylish but also sustainably produced. The collection is entirely circular, upcycled from over 100kg of unwanted clothing, with technical components like buttons and fasteners made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic.
The judging panel for the awards includes renowned designers from various disciplines, business leaders from some of the world’s most innovative companies, and Fast Company’s own writers and editors. Entries are evaluated based on key criteria such as functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural impact, and business impact.
Winners, finalists, and honorable mentions are featured online, with winners and finalists appearing in the Summer issue of Fast Company magazine, available on newsstands from July 30, 2024.
