New Sensation Lights Up Supertree Grove: Borealis by Switzerland-based artist Dan Acher

After over a decade of captivating audiences with its enchanting evening spectacles, Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay unveils its latest addition: Borealis (约定极光).

Conceived by Switzerland-based artist Dan Acher, Borealis combines artistry with cutting-edge technology to recreate the mesmerizing phenomenon of the Northern Lights amidst the heart of Supertree Grove. Utilizing beams of laser light traversing through particle clouds, Acher’s creation promises to transport visitors to a realm of celestial wonder.

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Edwin Tong, inaugurated the inaugural public screening of Borealis today, marking a milestone in the cultural landscape of Singapore.

Beginning May 5th, audiences can experience Borealis every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm, with an additional screening on Mondays at 8 pm. Each showcase spans 30 minutes, offering ample opportunity for immersion in this otherworldly spectacle.

Borealis joins Supertree Grove’s illustrious evening lineup, complementing the renowned Garden Rhapsody light and sound show. Set against a changing musical backdrop, Garden Rhapsody enchants audiences daily at 7:45 pm and 8:45 pm.

At the core of Acher’s vision lies the ethos of disrupting routines and fostering connections among diverse communities. Borealis embodies this philosophy by bringing the distant marvel of the Northern Lights within reach of Singaporeans, fostering a sense of unity and wonder among visitors.

Dynamic and ever-changing, Borealis captivates with its fluid interplay of light, influenced by ambient factors such as wind, humidity, and temperature. Enhancing the immersive experience is a bespoke atmospheric soundtrack by French composer Guillaume Desbois, evoking a dreamlike and introspective ambiance.

Having graced over 40 cities worldwide since 2016, Borealis finds its first permanent home at Gardens by the Bay, coinciding with a rare surge in Northern Lights activity. This year marks the pinnacle of the solar cycle, promising unparalleled opportunities to witness this celestial marvel, heightened by Borealis’ luminous presence.

The realization of Borealis at Gardens by the Bay is made possible through the generous support of community partner, Tote Board.
