Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Presents Cultural Extravaganza 2024: (Re)presenting Our SINGAPO人Treasures

Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) unveils the highly anticipated seventh edition of Cultural Extravaganza (CE), a vibrant celebration of Singapore’s rich cultural heritage. Under the theme ” (Re)presenting Our SINGAPO人Treasures,” CE 2024 promises to captivate audiences with an array of innovative productions and creative reinterpretations that highlight the diversity and dynamism of Singaporean culture.

Scheduled to take place from May 8 to June 30, 2024, CE 2024 will feature a captivating lineup of original theatrical performances, exhibitions, and concerts, showcasing the talents of local artists and arts groups.

One of the highlights of CE 2024 is the Singaporean Composers Series, presented by The TENG Company, commemorating 20 years of musical excellence. This series will feature 10 newly commissioned works by 20 local composers, spanning various genres and mediums, showcasing the depth and breadth of Singaporean artistry.

Additionally, the Devoted to Serve exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives and works of eight prominent local cartoonists, accompanied by original artworks from illustrator Koh Hong Teng and students from local schools.

CE 2024 will also feature groundbreaking collaborations and fresh interpretations of classic tales. The opening night will be headlined by “The Pawned Wife,” presented by Nam Hwa Opera, blending traditional Teochew opera with contemporary theatre.

Other highlights include “Essentially Macbeth” by NUS Chinese Drama and NUS Chinese Orchestra, “Disappearing Series…: Childhood Melodies of Yesteryears” by Ding Yi Music Company, and a composition showcase by xinyao icon Liang Wern Fook in collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.
