As Singapore’s elderly population continues to grow, many seniors find themselves isolated, particularly during important community events like Ramadan. Recognizing the significance of human connection, especially for those in need, Deliveroo has embarked on a heartwarming initiative this Ramadan season. Partnering with Jamiyah Home for the Aged (Darul Takrim), Deliveroo’s #ByYourSide campaign aims to bring joy and companionship to the 100 residents of the home.

On the first Friday of Ramadan, over 60 Deliveroo riders and employees volunteered their time to engage with the residents. Beyond merely distributing food, they shared in prayers and iftar (the breaking of fast) with the elderly, fostering meaningful interactions and a sense of community.

The initiative also catered to non-fasting residents, ensuring they too could partake in the festivities. Volunteers arrived early to assist with meal preparations, ensuring that everyone could join together for iftar by 5 PM. Throughout the day, Deliveroo riders engaged the residents in various activities, from games to heartfelt conversations, fostering a sense of belonging and companionship.

With Singapore’s aging demographic becoming increasingly prominent, initiatives like Deliveroo’s hold significant importance. Government efforts, such as the recent allocation of S$3.5 billion under Age Well SG, underscore the need to support and care for seniors within their communities. Deliveroo’s involvement in such causes reflects its commitment to making a positive impact beyond its core business.

This isn’t the first time Deliveroo has stepped up to support the community. Last year, in partnership with Darul Makmur Mosque, the company engaged over 1000 mosque-goers during Ramadan. Additionally, initiatives like Heroes to Heroes and Delivering Smiles have seen Deliveroo collaborate with organizations such as the Migrant Workers’ Centre, delivering thousands of iftar meals to those in need.

Beyond Ramadan, Deliveroo Singapore continues to collaborate with charities like Food From The Heart and TOUCH Community Services, showcasing a sustained commitment to giving back to the community.
