As the city gears up for Hong Kong Arts Month, Harbour City is set to transform into a vibrant canvas with the arrival of the renowned French artist Camille Walala. From March 21 to April 21, the Colourful Public Art Show, aptly named “Planet Walala @Harbour City,” promises an immersive experience for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
Camille Walala, a London-based multi-disciplinary artist celebrated for her bold and playful artworks, brings her signature style to Hong Kong. The exhibition boasts three major attractions, each offering a unique interaction with the public.
A Visual Feast: “Metropolis” Solo Exhibition
At Gallery by the Harbour, Camille will unveil her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, titled “Metropolis.” Showcasing her mesmerizing use of colors and geometric patterns, the exhibition promises to captivate audiences and offer a glimpse into the artist’s creative universe.
Iconic Landmarks Redefined: “Now You See It Now You Don’t”
One of the highlights of the event is the unveiling of the first-ever Hong Kong City Sign, designed by Camille Walala herself. Titled “Now You See It Now You Don’t,” this permanent artistic landmark stands tall at 3 meters and spans 6.5 meters in width. Drawing inspiration from the city’s skyline, the sign features overlapping sculptural letters, reminiscent of the urban landscape. Using anamorphic techniques, the sign reveals the letters “HONG KONG” from a specific viewpoint, adding an element of surprise and intrigue for visitors.
Playful Exploration: “A-MAZE” Outdoor Installation
For those seeking adventure, “A-MAZE” offers an immersive outdoor experience unlike any other. Inspired by Walala’s previous work in London, this vibrant maze invites visitors to embark on a journey of discovery. Spanning an impressive 3,500 square feet, the maze incorporates seating areas where visitors can pause and soak in the surroundings. Through “A-MAZE,” Camille hopes to evoke the joy and wonder of childhood exploration.
In addition to the public art installations, Harbour City has planned a series of engaging art activities throughout the event, catering to audiences of all ages. From workshops to guided tours, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at “Planet Walala @Harbour City.”
