[Review] Combatting Sleep Deprivation with QN Wellness’ Plant-Based Supplement, Hi-Sleep

In a world where the importance of quality sleep cannot be overstated, QN Wellness, a Singaporean home-grown, plant-based supplement company has recently launched its Hi-Sleep product.

Hi-Sleep by QN Wellness

According to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, sleep deprivation is deemed to be at a crisis level in Singapore, with Singaporeans’ lack of sleep attributed to poor pre-bedtime routines, social media and gaming, anxiety, and staying up late in an attempt to reclaim their time from obligations during the day. Statistics also revealed that only one in four people in Singapore (27%) have an ideal sleep cycle (of 7 hours or more).

Developed by QN Wellness, Hi-Sleep offers a plant-based formula designed to promote restorative sleep and combat the detrimental effects of sleep deprivation on physical and mental well-being.

Hi-Sleep claims to harness the therapeutic properties of natural ingredients to promote restful sleep and enhance overall well-being. Its three main plant-based ingredients in its formula include:

  • Ziziphi Spinosae (Wild Jujube Seed Extract): known for its calming effects, it helps reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
  • Calcium L-aspartate (Amino Acid Calcium): may aid in regulating sleep patterns and supporting deep, restorative sleep.
  • Manyprickle Acanthopanax Root: supports stress reduction and improved sleep quality.

Each caplet of Hi-Sleep contains a blend of these ingredients, said to offer a holistic approach to sleep improvement.

I have tried Melatonin supplements to aid with better sleep and it has worked for me. I do not use it regularly, but once in a blue moon when I need a deep sleep to recover from fatigue or when I have difficulty sleeping due to stress or anxiety. Melatonin is a hormone made in the body and it regulates night and day cycles or sleep-wake cycles. Melatonin supplement helps us sleep better by increasing its level.

I am intrigued by Hi-Sleep’s claims and wanted to test it as an alternative, fully plant-based supplement to the usual lab-made melatonin supplements I am used to taking. Hi-Sleep comes in pink digestible caplets, to be consumed with water:

I tried it for a few nights over the past few weeks, consuming one caplet before going to sleep at night. The recommended dosage is to take it 2 to 3 times a day, before or after a meal. It does appear to deliver a deeper sleep for me, but it does not have a more immediate knock-out effect for me like Melatonin. In any case, it does serve its purpose as a sleep aid and as a full plant-based alternative.

As with all health-related supplements, the effects may vary for each individual.

Each 60-caplet box costs S and is available on QN Wellness’ official website and major retail chains like Guardian, Unity Pharmacy, Watson’s, Robinsons Online, and various e-commerce platforms. There is cost savings if you purchase in bulk of two to three boxes.
