The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has set the stage for an exhilarating season, unveiling the star-studded lineup for the PTO Asian Open and a revamped T100 Triathlon World Tour. The launch event at London’s City Hall not only highlighted the prospect of two-time Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee making his Singapore debut but also marked a significant evolution of the PTO Tour into the T100 Triathlon World Tour.
The PTO Asian Open, scheduled for April 12-14, could witness Alistair Brownlee’s first appearance in Singapore alongside Tokyo Olympics women’s triathlon gold medalist Flora Duffy. The stellar athlete lineup was revealed at the launch event, where the PTO showcased its commitment to delivering an action-packed calendar for the season.
The PTO Tour has undergone a rebranding, emerging as the T100 Triathlon World Tour. Featuring a lineup of 40 of the world’s best triathletes, the tour spans eight races across three continents. The season kicks off in Miami on March 9 and concludes with a Grand Final at a location yet to be disclosed in late November. The series aims to crown the women’s and men’s World Champions, with Marina Bay hosting the Singapore leg from April 12-14.
Key Highlights of the T100 Triathlon World Tour 2024 Calendar:
The evolution of the PTO Tour into the T100 Triathlon World Tour follows the PTO’s partnership with World Triathlon in August 2023, designating it as the official World Championship tour of long-distance triathlon.
The contracted athletes, totaling 40, will compete in a minimum of five races and the Grand Final. Notable names in the women’s lineup include Anne Haug, Ashleigh Gentle, Taylor Knibb, Lucy Charles-Barclay, and reigning Olympic gold medalist Flora Duffy. On the men’s side, the lineup features Magnus Ditlev, Jason West, Pieter Heemeryck, and the potential Singapore debutant Alistair Brownlee.
Additional Highlights and Prizes:
In a unique move, the T100 Triathlon World Tour invites amateur athletes to participate in mass events at each stage, including a newly introduced 100km distance at six locations.
Certain stages of the tour will feature Age Group championship designations, allowing amateurs to represent their countries. The selection process will adhere to World Triathlon standards.
Singaporeans and triathlon enthusiasts can anticipate the excitement of the T100 Triathlon World Tour when it arrives in Marina Bay on April 12-14. Registration for the Singapore T100 triathlon and duathlon is open.
The PTO’s commitment to enhancing the triathlon experience is evident in the T100 Triathlon World Tour, promising a thrilling season with top-notch competition and opportunities for both professionals and amateurs alike.
