Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) and Make-A-Wish have joined forces to create magical moments for eleven children battling critical illnesses and their families. This enchanted event unfolded at the newly unveiled themed land, World of Frozen, where wishes were granted, and dreams came to life.
A Magical Gathering at World of Frozen
For the first time ever, HKDL hosted the Summer Snow Day Wishes Celebration, welcoming around 130 guests from Make-A-Wish affiliates in Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Eleven children, hailing from different corners of the world, were the stars of the show as they explored the enchanting World of Frozen and saw their wishes fulfilled.
Inspiring Dreams: Dominic’s Journey
Dominic, a wish child from Singapore, faced a life-altering diagnosis of hemophilia just seven days after birth. Despite the challenges of an incurable condition, Dominic’s passion for mathematics, science, engineering, and space remained unshaken. Inspired by the Imagineers featured in the Disney+ documentary “The Imagineering Story,” Dominic wished to meet these creative minds responsible for Disney parks and attractions.
His wish was granted by Jo Phoa, Director of Creative Development, and Angus Chan, Principal Ride Control System Engineer of Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong. They designed an exclusive tour for Dominic, showcasing the advanced Audio-Animatronics technology of Frozen Ever After and unveiling the electric motion simulator system of Iron Man Experience—the first of its kind at any Disney park. Dominic’s encounter with the Imagineers deepened his passion for science, leaving him inspired to pursue a future as an Imagineer.
Bravery Beyond Years: Ali Meets Elsa
Four-year-old Ali, bravely undergoing chemotherapy for medulloblastoma, had a wish to meet her favorite character, Elsa. At World of Frozen, her dream came true as she was greeted by Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and other beloved characters from Disney’s ‘Frozen.’ Ali’s courage mirrored that of Elsa, and her family noted that the visit infused her with hope, providing a delightful distraction from her illness. Meeting Elsa and receiving a cherished autograph added extra joy to Ali’s magical experience.
Supporting Make-A-Wish Hong Kong’s 25th Anniversary
To mark the opening of World of Frozen and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, HKDL will donate HK$10 ($2 SGD) for every transaction made at Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles in the kingdom of Arendelle until Jan 10, 2024. Coupled with proceeds from the recent ‘Wish Upon A Chocolate Cake’ charity sales, HKDL plans to contribute a total of HK$600,000 ($103,000 SGD) to support the development of Make-A-Wish Hong Kong.
A Legacy of Magic and Compassion
Disney and Make-A-Wish have a storied history of granting over 150,000 Disney-inspired wishes globally for more than 40 years. The bravery, resilience, and optimism displayed by these wish children continue to inspire all cast members at HKDL. The resort remains committed to partnering with Make-A-Wish Hong Kong and other Make-A-Wish International affiliates, creating magical memories that endure a lifetime for children and families facing critical illnesses.
