Prepare your taste buds for an exhilarating ride as Chengdu Bowl, the purveyor of elevated Sichuan-style tapas and bowls, unveiled its new flagship store in Tanjong Pagar to attract the CBD crowd. The menu boasts an array of modern Sichuan-style dishes, ranging from Stir Fried Ox Tongue to Sichuan Spiced Peppers and the show-stopping Flaming Beer Roasted Duck.

Earlier this year, the same founders behind Chengdu Bowl also launched Numb restaurant in Marina One. Numb is their third restaurant, after successfully launching Chengdu Restaurant and Chengdu Bowl in Singapore. This latest flagship restaurant at Tanjong Pagar will add to their growing chain:

For spice enthusiasts, this is a haven you won’t want to miss. Chengdu Bowl’s innovative concept combines a Sichuan-style main dish with six side dishes, one base, and one secret sauce, promising a fiery yet wholesome meal.

We were invited for a dinner tasting and sampled a wide selection of dishes. The journey begins with a selection of Sichuan tapas that will leave you craving for more. These bite-sized delights, ranging from tofu to chicken, offer a unique twist on the traditional mala flavours. They come in small, sharing portions, perfect to enjoy with a group of friends over drinks.

Mains at Chengdu Bowl are equally delightful, with the visually stunning Flaming Beer Roasted Duck stealing the spotlight. This dish is not only a feast for the eyes but also a symphony of flavors that will leave you craving for more.

Another crowd-favourite would be the classic Spicy Chilli Chicken with Fried Dough Twists, a dish that packs a punch with its bold and zesty profile.

For those seeking a more substantial meal, Chengdu Bowl offers grain and noodle bowls that are as satisfying as they are spicy. The Signature Stir-fried Ox Tongue Bowl is a must-try, showcasing tender, succulent ox tongue in all its glory. Alternatively, the Tangy Sour and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup will tantalise your taste buds with its rich broth and hearty portions.

To counterbalance the numbing spice, Chengdu Bowl serves a selection of refreshing drinks in earthenware crockery inspired by ancient China. These cocktails are the perfect complement to your meal, offering a delightful contrast to the fiery flavours.

Prices are pretty reasonable, with most dishes priced under $20. You can probably get cheaper Sichuan-style mala food at hawker centres, but the experience at Chengdu Bowl is elevated and in a more modern, comfortable setting with the relevant presentation.

This latest flagship restaurant will be a great hangout for the CBD office crowd, looking to enjoy some spicy Sichuan-style food while knocking back a drink or two in a more modern environment.
