Interested in visiting Ireland? Step into this pioneer Irish pub in Orchard and be magically whisked away to the Emerald Isle.
From its friendly Irish atmosphere to its authentic Irish food and national drink, Guinness, this pub brings the traditional Irish pub experience to you!
Guinness
Oh my goodness, it’s Guinness ($9 – $10 for 250ml) ! You must not miss out on this ice-cold draught when you visit an Irish pub.
Guinness is an Irish “stout”, which means “dark beer”. Guinness has a unique flavor with a good balance of sweet and bitter tastes. It’s said to have less alcohol per volume, making it a healthier beer to drink.
Committed to providing the authentic experience, The Drunken Poet specially imports their Guinness straight from Dublin, Ireland. The team takes pride in their pouring skill as all bartenders have to undergo countless hours of practice to perfect their craft.
Mains
This piping hot plate of OL’ Skool Fish N’ Chip ($28) is generously sized. It’s a 2-person portion if you are a small eater.
The fish is fresh and savory. It’s coated in drunken beer batter that stays crispy for a long time. Some bites were a little too salty to my liking at first, but I added a few drops of vinegar to help neutralize the saltiness.
Traditional Shepherd’s Pie ($28) is an aromatic and flavorful dish of minced lamb, homemade creamy mashed potato, parmesan cheese and spice. The rich and creamy Shepherd’s pie goes very well with the bread. Portion is generous too.
Dessert
We had the Grilled Peaches Drizzled in Bourbon Caramel Sauce ($18) – grilled caramel infused peaches served with vanilla ice cream. If you are a big caramel fan like me, you must not miss out on this dessert. The sweetness is just nice, and I didn’t really need to add the extra caramel they gave.
About The Drunken Poet
The Drunken Poet has an intriguing story to tell – from the old homey décor to the dark wooden furniture, every element brings about a timeless look filled with detailed history, making the experience more fulfilling than the average modern-day pub.
We visited the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and there weren’t many people. The ambience was great too. That said, during the respective sports seasons, you may catch enthusiastic loud cheers as the pub screens live sports ranging from Irish sports, soccer, F1 and more.
