A study by baby care brand, Summer, found that over one in three fathers check their baby monitors over once per minute, using smartphone tech to keep abreast of things even if they are away from their babies. Dads are more monitor-obsessed than moms, the study showed, but in reality, both parents have come to rely on this and other items of tech that take the guesswork out of parenthood. If you are expecting a bundle of joy, keep the following tips in mind to ensure you have some of the most useful new items on the market.
Smart Car Seats
Newly launched smart car seats for baby like Cybex’s Sirona S 360 have features like 360 rotation, which makes it easy to get your baby in and out of the car, especially when the seat is rear-facing care. Nuna REVV is another brand to boast the same design. Smart baby seats are not only easy to handle but also very secure. They alert you via smartphone, for instance, if you have left your little one in the car or if your baby is too warm or has been seated for too long.
Sound Machines
Absolute silence doesn’t always do the trick when it comes to helping your baby feel sleepy. The answer comes in the form of a sound machine, one of which is really making waves in the baby tech world right now—the Baby Shusher Soother. This machine actually makes human-like “shh” sounds, saving the baby’s parents’ voice and helping the baby feel ‘accompanied’ at nighttime. Another tech lover’s delight is the Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Nightlight Soother, which emits soothing sounds, functions as a night light, and projects stars onto the ceiling!
Echo Dot for Kids… and Parents!
If you love music, then you may already have your own Echo Dot, the famed voice-controlled smart speaker with Alexa that provides music, news, information, and more. Echo Dot is a kids’ version that toddler-aged kids (and older ones) love. Kids will continue to use this device as they grow older, since Echo Dot can answer questions about animals, science, history, and so many more subejcts. If you receive an Echo Dot before your baby is born, start preparing for the fun at your baby shower. Although you will probably have loads of baby shower activities lined up, use your speaker to play one of the funnest games there is: ‘Name the baby tune’! Simply prepare a list of about 20 song with the words ‘baby’ or ‘babe’ in them, play each song using your Echo Dot, and give a reward to the person who guesses the largest number of songs the fastest.
Hands-Free Breast Pump
In the recent past, it was pretty hard to do anything while you were pumping breast milk, as most required you to hold the suction device to your breast. The Elvie Breast Plump is a true groundbreaker, as it is a ‘wearable pump’ that keeps your hands completely free to work on a laptop or chat with friends on your smartphone.
Having a baby in the new millennium is without a doubt more practical than it has ever been. Cool devices abound, ranging from speakers for kids to hands-free breast pumps. The media may lament human beings’ ‘excessive reliance on technology’, but baby tech is one of the most important tools that new parents can lean on to make the process of adaptation far easier.
