Homegrown zi char restaurant, New Ubin Seafood, well-known for their signature Heart Attack Fried Rice, Boss Mee Hoon and other delectable dishes has launched a new express meal concept dedicated to ready-to-eat, convenient meals for one in
the form of Ubin Express under the New Ubin Seafood Group.
Hailing from Pulau Ubin, New Ubin Seafood has built its brand reputation for over three decades and two generations, developing a cult following of foodies to its name. They are best recognised for retaining their rustic roots and kampong essence, while delivering an inimitable zi char ingenuity that earned them the Michelin Bib Gourmand for three consecutive years (2016 to 2018).
Located at City Gate, along Beach Road, the express restaurant seeks to offer greater accessibility to Singapore-style comfort food to the offices and residences in the area. It is a simple, no-frills restaurant, for diners to get their comfort food for a quick meal.
Other than the signature Heart Attack Fried Rice ($6.50) which is now available on its own and Boss Mee Hoon ($7), other everyday favourites for main dishes include Singapore Style Mee Goreng ($7) and Egg Fried Jasmine Rice ($6).
The Heart Attack Fried Rice is a must-try for those new to New Ubin Seafood. It is made with beef fat from a juicy steak cut and topped with crispy beef lard. Just the description itself sounds absolutely sinful. This is an indulgence I must have whenever I visit New Ubin Seafood, along with their steak. Now, you can order it on its own at Ubin Express!
The other highlight is their Boss Mee Hoon, wok-fried bee hoon with fish cakes and vegetables. It is the smoky char of the bee hoon that makes it different from others and it tastes as sinfully indulgent as their Heart Attack Fried Rice.
If you are on a diet, this is not where you should be eating. If you are looking for hearty, sinful comfort food, Ubin Express is the place to head to.
For starters, Luncheon Meat Fries ($8), Har Cheong Kai (5pcs, $10), Hei Chor (5pcs, $10) and Squid Paste Youtiao (5pcs, $10) are available on the menu in sharing portions.
You can also choose to customise your mains with add-on choices of Grilled Chicken, House Smoked Pork, Seasoned Prawns, sous vide egg, tobiko (flying fish roe) and more with an addition of 80 cents onwards.
For those who do not live near the area or are too lazy to travel down, islandwide delivery services are also available.
