Great Eastern launches the 15th edition of the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR). This year’s race will see Singapore’s first all-women’s virtual run. To mark the return of GEWR after the cancellation of the race in 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), runners will lead a fund-raising initiative where monies will go towards underprivileged women in the society, helping them lead a better life.
This year, the public will get to participate in the GEWR by clocking their miles via a mobile app from 14 November to 15 December, across a total of five different race categories, with a special 113km category to commemorate the company’s 113th anniversary in 2021. For this special category, participants can choose to form a team of two to four ladies to complete the distance collectively or clock it individually within the time period.
Other categories will include the usual 5km, 10km, 21.1km distances, as well as the popular 2km category specially for mothers and daughters (5 to 12 years old).
To prepare participants for their run, GEWR will conduct a series of monthly virtual challenges to encourage ladies to increase their mileage and improve their pace on the app MOVE by Liv3ly.
Participants can also expect tips from athletes, running coaches, physiotherapists and nutritionists on this journey as participants train with GEWR on Facebook and Instagram, starting from September.
Running towards a Sustainable Future
This year, Great Eastern will eliminate single-use plastic in race packs and entitlements, to make an impact towards a greener and more sustainable world. Finisher medals for participants are 100% recyclable, while the race bag this year is made from natural pulp fibre and is recyclable.
Raising funds to empower women
In 2021, GEWR will be adopting two charity organisations – Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) and Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT). DOT is a local charity seeking to empower women by helping them achieve financial independence to support their families, and a new beneficiary this year.
Great Eastern pledges to use the race as a platform to raise awareness and funds towards supporting underprivileged women in their back-to-work journeys. Members of the public can support these causes via the Great Eastern Cares fundraising pages on SimplyGiving.sg set up by Great Eastern staff and financial representatives.
Registration
Registrations for GEWR will begin today, 18 August via here. Participants will be required to clock their distance through the MOVE app from 14 November to 15 December 2021.
Through the Great Eastern UPGREAT app, Great Eastern policyholders and loyal runners can access special discount codes to register for the run and customers with UPGREAT points can also offset their points to redeem slots for the run.
