Natalie Siow Yu Zhen weighs in on the racist Chinese Ngee Ann ex-professor, with a photo of her and her Indian-descent boyfriend.
Natalie’s post had two parts; an image of her and her boyfriend of Indian descent on her Instagram account, and a clip of the viral video featuring the disturbingly racist argument between ex-professor and Dave Parkash, as taken by his girlfriend Jacqueline Ho.
What did Natalie Siow Yu Zhen say about the racist argument with the Ngee Ann Polytechnic lecturer?
“Why so f*ing judgemental?” asked Natalie on her Instagram post, questioning the content of the argument and the viral issue. She went on to ask if there was any legal basis to a prohibition between men and women of different ethnicities from being in relationships.
She also said that she was very proud to have her boyfriend by her side, who was not named or tagged in her post. She also said that she and her boyfriend have been together for the past eight months.
Another part of her caption said that her boyfriend also spoke fluent Chinese, and in her opinion, “better than other [sic] Chinese people.”
The viral video clip that Natalie’s photo featured a former lecturer from NP, who was 60 years old, according to The Straits Times. Uploaded on June 6, it was taken by Jacqueline Ho as her boyfriend, Dave Parkash was in an argument on the street with the man who would later be identified as the ex-lecturer.
The argument showed a distressing instance of overt racism directed towards Dave and Jacqueline. The couple were allegedly on Orchard Road on Sunday night and were approached by the ex-professor. He then began to question their relationship based on their appearance.
The ex-lecturer told them that a man of Indian descent and a Chinese woman together as a couple was a disgrace. He also made a comment that Dave was “preying” on the Chinese girl.
Natalie Siow Yu Zhen flipped a table on that fateful day the Orchard Tower murder took place.
This was not new to Dave, who said he and his girlfriend had been subject to various instances of overt and subtle racism throughout their 7-year relationship.
He is of Indian and Filipino parentage, while his girlfriend, Ho, who is a designer in IT, is half-Thai and half-Singaporean Chinese.
You can watch the uncomfortable exchange below.
Natalie gained fame as the lone female implicated in the Orchard Tower murder case. She and six other individuals were arrested after a man died in July 2019 from stabbing and violence at the well-known shopping complex.
Her charges had been downgraded from murder, and she was sentenced to a much lesser charge after prosecutors were able to piece together the events that lead to the death of their victim, 31-year-old Noel Satheesh Gobidass.
She served five months in prison for being part of the incident, which showed her inflict violence on the victim in several videos and images circulating online.
She pleaded to guilty on October 9, 2020 for one charge each of being in the company of Tan Sen Yang, 29, who had a foldable Karambit knife in his possession, and causing hurt to Satheesh by kicking and punching him together with Tan Sen Yang, Joel Tan Yun Sheng, 27, and Ang Da Yuan, 27.
