29-year-old Jonathan Long was taking his BMW M4 coup for a spin with his friends in the early hours of February 13 when tragedy struck. He had his four friends died in front of a vacant shophouse after his car slammed into the facade, and burst into flames.
His girlfriend, Raybe Oh Siew Huey, tried to save him and ran forward to open the car door. She sustained burns to 80% of her body and was still reportedly confined in Singapore General Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
26-year-old Oh was seen in recently-released footage of the incident, that showed her boyfriend’s BMW spinning along Tanjong Pagar before crashing into the front of the shophouse. A few seconds later, the car begins to burn and the fire blazes larger.
A white car the pulls up across the street from the burning BMW and two people rush forward. Oh, who was wearing a grey top, can be seen running straight to the wreck and into the fire.
Reports said that she tried to open the door to save her boyfriend but was unable to. The five people in the car died at the scene, and Oh was taken to Singapore General Hospital while still lucid.
A longer cut of the video above showed that Oh emerged from the burning wreck covered in flames, and the company has since issued an apology for showing the full unedited clip.
Who is Raybe Oh Siew Huey? How did she try to save her boyfriend from the Tanjong Pagar BMW crash?
“We would like to apologise for our mistake and acknowledge that it is insensitive to show the full clip of Ms Oh in distress and we would like to inform all others to refrain from sharing the full clip,” the company said.
The couple are figured in the case of the Tanjong Pagar BMW crash, where five people were killed. In the early morning hours of February 14, Jonathan Long, Mr Eugene Yap, 29, Mr Elvin Tan Yong Hao, 28, Mr Gary Wong Hong Chieh, 29, died after the car slammed into the front of a shophouse. Video footage showed that the car was speeding.
According to a previous Alvinology report, Oh was Long’s girlfriend for years, and they had applied for a flat together. She was previously a flight attendant with Singapore International Airlines, and sang geitai.
Oh enjoyed a close relationship with Long’s family, and his father was hoping for her recovery, considering her a “daughter.”
New details emerged The Straits Times report saying that Teo, Tan, and Wong were leaving Tanjong Pagar and were trying to get a taxi or private-hire car. But due to waiting for 30 minutes to no avail, Long decided to let them ride his BMW M4 coup and he would let them alight in an area where it may be easier to get a ride home.
The friends were reportedly engaged in charity work and had eaten together earlier that day, a separate report said.
