Popular home-grown Singapore Bakkwa (Chinese barbecue pork) specialty brand, Bee Cheng Hiang (BCH) has launched a new product this year in December – the Applewood Sliced Pork (苹果木切片肉干) Bakkwa.

The Applewood Sliced Pork is smoked for 2 hours with U.S. Imported Applewood injecting a smokey BBQ smell and taste into the succulent meat. The Bakkwa is made from premium pork hind leg, marinated with BCH’s traditional secret recipe, and barbecued to perfection.

I been watching The American Barbecue Showdown on Netflix, a reality competition show where a bunch of America’s best backyard smokers and pit-masters vie for the title of American Barbecue Champion. It got me really interested into smoking and barbecue techniques. The type of wood you use makes a difference to the fragrance of the pork, on top of the sauce used and the technique.

It is good to see household traditional brand BCH innovating with a new product. We tried it and love the light, sweet added fragrance and smooth texture.

The Applewood Sliced Pork is available online via BCH’s official website as well as at all Bee Cheng Hiang retail outlets across Singapore. It is priced at S$19.80 for 300g, S$330 for 500g, S$39.60 for 600g and S$66 for 1kg, a tad costlier than the regular BCH bakkwa which retails from S$16.80 for 300g.
