Singapore ranks among the Top 10 Global Cities for Dining and Shopping

According to the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index: Indulgences, Singapore ranked 5th and 10th in the global index for overall spend on shopping and food & beverages respectively. Compared to 2016, the lion city has seen a 9% increase in terms of total expenditure spend, with travellers in Singapore spending an average of $286 per day in 2017.

The Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index: Indulgences, takes a deeper look at the amount spent within those cities on dining and shopping and considers the impact those dollars have on cities’ local economies and the wallets of travellers who go there.

Singapore ranks 10th amongst Top Cities for Dining (Food & Beverages)

In Singapore, travellers spent over 12.9 per cent of their travel budget on food. Other Asian cities within the Top 10 list of Global Cities for Dining and Shopping include Bangkok and Tokyo, where travellers spent 20.6 per cent and 20.3 per cent respectively.

Singapore ranks 5th amongst Top Cities for Shopping

GDCI: Indulgences reveals that travellers are also spending big in Dubai and London when it comes to shopping, whether purchasing clothes, souvenirs or other goods. Visitors to Singapore spent 27.6 per cent of their travelling budget on shopping alone; while visitors to London, Seoul and Tokyo, spent at least 40 per cent of their travel budgets on shopping.
