Last July 26, Singaporean netizens visiting the Toa Payoh Hawker Centre were witness to a fight between two men. Netizen Patrick Tan was able to capture the incident on his mobile phone. Watch the video below:
In the video below, diners in the foreground were forced to stand up and retreat from the scene of a heated fight involving four men.
As the diners in the foreground move back, you’ll see one elderly man kick something and fall down flat trying to move away from something or someone off camera. This is followed by another old man helping the former to his feet, as another man approaches the pair and leads them away.
The previously-fallen man then points angrily at someone off-camera, who finally makes an appearance as another old man. One of the men restraining the former then goes to the newly-arrived old man and restrains him as well.
The first angry old man is then lead away from the hawker centre and can be seen walking away with the man restraining him.
Afterwards, the two remaining men in the centre begin to walk away in a different direction, but this changes when the man figuring in the altercation rushes after the first pair, and from afar we can see that the scuffle continues.
As the camera tries to focus on fight raging on in the background, it also catches pieces of shattered glass bottles on the floor, which may have broken during the first part of the fight.
The scuffle actually continues on the street as the two men continue to try to get at each other and the two other men restrain them unsuccessfully.
According to a report by The Straits Times, The Singapore Police Force are asking anyone with further information on this incident to step forward and file a report. The police have said that any information provided will be treated with confidentiality.
Concerned citizens can report to this website.
Some commented on what could be used in such future incidents.
Others pointed out the men’s age and how they were still engaged in such incidents.
Some seconded the opinion about age, but it should be mentioned that there has been no confirmation on the age of the participants in the incident.
Some said that because of their age, these men were wasting time and should relax.
This isn’t the first time that this hawker place has featured in the news for being the venue for rowdy and violent behaviour. While this recent incident concerns men of elderly age, there was another incident just last year that involved a couple and an older man.
In a previous post on Alvinology, a couple had been arrested and fined for assaulting an elderly man. The couple had been fined $2700 for shouting and pushing a 79-year-old man in the hawker centre. The woman in the report said that she had simply snapped that day after the stress from taking care of her grandmother had overwhelmed her.
