According to a report by The Straits Times, Singapore blogging queen Xiaxue is considering submitting an application for the upcoming vacant posts as five of the current nine members of parliament are stepping down from their two-and-a-half year term.

Xiaxue, whose real name is Wendy Cheng, is a 34-year-old blogger known for her powerful social media reach with Singaporean netizens, her pink hair, and very loud opinions.

With 600,000 followers on Instagram and 400,000 on YouTube, she definitely has the readership and followers to back up her application–at least when it comes to how many people are listening to her.

In a post she published on her Instagram account on April 1, she expressed desire to be chosen as an NMP. She encouraged her followers to nominate her as she was not aware of the nomination process yet.

She also said that she definitely fulfilled the criteria for NMP.

In an interview with The Straits Times, she also said, “Being an MP isn’t really viable. It’s a full-time job.”

What do netizens have to say about her move?

As expected of any politician, Xiaxue has both detractors and supporters. Here’s what they have to say about her plan to be part of Singapore’s Parliament.

Some commented on which group of Singaporeans she could represent best.

Others offered insight on who looked up to Wendy Cheng.

Others supported her desire to join Parliament.

Others had comments on another country’s politics. What it had to do with Xiaxue

A lot of the comments on her Instagram post were as such:

Some commenters said the Parliament needed a breath of fresh air and a woman.

Some said that the Parliament really needed someone like her even if the comment did not come from a Singaporean.

While others wanted more people to have her iconic look.

What do you think of her plan to join Parliament? Let us know in the comments!

Years ago, Xiaxue had different issues to handle, read about some of them here.
